pippapotomous :  thats a nice touch but hope you grans a good cake maker, I think the reason fruit cake is traditional is because it was a ‘luxury’ item because its such a pain in the ass to make as it can take months to mature and has a risk of going moldy if not stored correctly, something im not brave enough to atempt lol

One tier vanilla, one tier chocolate, top tier marble- all with a salted caramel buttercream frosting. It was delicious. We also had an assortment of cookies, but the venue staff put the cookies out during cocktail hour and they were gone before dinner was served. Oh well, they must have been good!

Our cake will be three tiers

bottom tier: dark chocolate cake with nutella dark chocolate filling, dark chocolate ganache and fresh strawberries

middle tier: Tahitian vanilla sponge cake soaked in lemon curd filled with crushed blueberris and finished with vanilla bean meringue frosting

top tier: Strawberry and Tahitian vanilla cake filled with fresh strawberry coulis and meringue crumbs, topped with brown sugar Baileys meringue frosting

 

Picture is from our baker’s website, our flowers will be blush and cream

btob17 :  Gran’s fruit cakes are not to be messed with – enough whiskey in there to get you nicely buzzed ;).  She did the same for my sister’s wedding.  She may be 90 years old but she’s still a great baker.

We had carrot with cream cheese frosting and then chocolate with chocolate fudge buttercream and a raspberry jam. They were delicious!
