@Meowkers:  My grandma always tries to give me home made gifts.  Whether it’s something she bought at a craft show or something she made herself.  It never fails.  For my bridal shower she gave me a 2 foot long wooden sleeping angel made for a mantel.  It’s very cartoonish.  I can only guess she will try and top it for Christmas.

I agree about bath and body stuff too though.  It gets old.

@Meowkers:  I agree about bath stuff (it’s what I thought of when I saw the thread title), which is why I never buy it for others. it’s usually packed with artificial fragrances, and I don’t want to smell like walking potpourri. Plus a lot of the ingredients, fragrance included, irritate my skin and usually don’t do much beneficial for it.

People who attempt to give me the Christmas/Birthday combination gift tempt fate as it is….but if you pull that crap AND give me beauty, skin care or bath & body products…I will kill you and that is that.  I know what I like, I use it, I buy it, I don’t expect anyone else to finance my quest against wrinkles and dry heels…and I don’t want a holistic body bar…AT ALL.

I agree. I hate baths, so anything bath oriented is useless to me.

Also, earrings. First of all, I’m picky, and people always pick stuff that is just not “me”. Second of all, I rarely wear earrings, because they irritate my ears, so it’s a pretty useless gift. In general, I don’t like receiving jewelry unless it’s from one of my few girlfriends with good taste in that sort of thing.

I totally agree about bath stuff! I’m picky about scents and really like more natural stuff: I HATE bath and body works. Now, if it’s from LUSH, I would LOVE it since I’m a huge lush-obsessee, but no thank you, bath and body works!

Clothes… Unless it’s something specific that i asked for.  My ex’s mother used to do this, all three brother’s g/f’s got the same sweater in different colors…. and then were immediately donated by this chick.

I hate recieving bath and body crap. How much of that stuff do people think you need?

I also hate recieving novelty stuff for the kitchen. My kitchen is tiny and I barely have enough room for the items I use daily.

Oh! And I hate recieving knic knacks (sp?). MY tiny kitchen lives in my tiny apartment, and it’s hard enough to keep it looking tidy without a million random things cluttering up the place!

…basically…I sort of think once you’re an adult, if you want/need it, you’ll probably get it yourself. I’m not into the whole gift giving and recieving thing. I’d rather do a big donation every Christmas and then have a nice dinner.

edit: I’m not against giving and recieving gifts in general, i just don’t like when it’s obligatory (x-mas, birthdays etc). You wind up with too much stuff you don’t need, and it’s rarely heart-felt. Kind of a chore. Random heart-felt gifts that the person really thought you’d love are a nice thing though.

I hate getting bodywash because I dont the like the smell of any berries and when someone gives them to me I just give them to my daughters. I have a particular scent that I like and it is not sweet smelling stuff.

We have a rule about bath stuff and anything ornamental. It is NOT allowed unless requested. No one has room for junk.

@Meowkers:  That is mine EXACTLY!  The only thing that is barely passable are the hand pump soap from Bath and Body Works – and those go in deep in a cabinet and only come out when I’m completely out of hand soap.  The rest gets donated to Goodwill!

@Meowkers:  I also don’t like bath things. I’m super sensitive and I have to be really picky about what I use on my skin.

I also hate clothes and any decor for the home. most people do not understand my style and I end up with stuff that I must return or put in the goodwill bin.

honestly, I would be so happy if birthdays and holidays were gift free (except for kids gifts, that is still fun).
