Every diocese has its own requirements, but we did:

– a day-long seminar called “Real Life, Real Love” (about communication and growing as a couple) and one called “God’s Plan for a Joy-Filled Marriage” (about sex, intimacy, and family planning in the context of Theology of the Body) (They also had the option of doing a weekend retreat that combined both of those)

– we completed the FOCCUS inventory and are meeting with a married couple from our parish to discuss our responses

– our parish requested that we attend a program called “Catholicism 101” which goes over the basics of Catholic theology and the sacraments. It felt like it was designed to be a “refresher” for people who have been away from the church/intermittent churchgoers but want to have a church wedding. For Fiance and me, who attend Mass regularly, it felt a little redundant.

It totally depends on where you are. Every diocese has a different set of rules, and sometimes parishes will add on a little somethin’ extra. In our case, the seminars were required by the diocese; the FOCCUS inventory and the Catholicism 101 were required by the parish.

Your diocese probably has a website with information about their requirements, and your parish might also have theirs on a website, or the priest will let you know when you meet with him.
