Depends. All they did at my first was ask questions about my health. If hubby can go, you should bring him.

I had a really early first appointment because of spotting. My dr had a small portable ultrasound machine so we could see a sac and then I had bloodwork done. My first real appointment (a few weeks later) was with a nurse who covered our medical pasts so dr knew what to look for if anything. Then we saw the dr again and she ordered more blood work and a dating ultrasound.

I had a pap and a pelvic exam in October, as well as some blood work done.  Is it likely that I will have all that stuff again for my first prenatal appointment next week?

@tracylesq:  I’m 16w2d and they only did a pelvic exam on me (at 11w4d) because I was having some problems, otherwise I don’t think they will seeing as you just had one. My first pregnancy they started checking me regulary when I was 30weeks? Sorry I can’t remember exactly when but it was way later in my pregnancy. Bloodwork will probably be done because they look for different things than they would with just a normal pap.

@mrsjroo:  Depends on your Dr’s office. All of them seem to be different. Some won’t do an u/s until you are 18-20w, some do a dating u/s in the first tri. (had mine at 8w3d due to irregular periods)  If hubby can go, I would have him go because either this appt or next they will need to know family history on both sides of the family. And they can also let you both know what to expect.
