- Wedding: June 2011
this is great! i cant think of anything specifically at the moment but my mother had alot of these (its been 10 years since she planned a wedding – for my sister)
EVERYONE got a kick out of my red high heels – people were so shocked – as if white or ivory is the only color heel brides wear. i guess they dont spend as much time on the blogs and boards as i do 😉
Apparently my fiance and I are such troublemakers that people aren’t really surprised by anything. Early on, his Stepmom was like “you’re not wearing a wedding dress, are you?” I think the one that shocks people the most is when I say I’m not doing flowers or centerpieces. Are they not aware how lazy I am?? (though our caterer said we can buy centerpieces at Trader Joe’s which may change my mind)
oh, and that we are getting married on a cruise ship. Nobody we have told has EVER heard of anyone else doing that… but that is more of the ‘You’re doing what??’ in the good way 🙂
haha me too!!
mine’s has been like misstattoo
-no flower girl
-i want a short dress
-cupcakes or cheesecake instead of wedding cake
-not a lot of traditional things like boquet/garter toss, cake cutting, father/daughter and mother/son dance, etc
-no ‘souvenirs’ …..this is what my family calls ‘favors’….but its in their tradition for these souvenirs to be wedding figurines glued to a foam base with tulle and lace and our names and wedding date attached somehow….it reminds me of some thing like this baby shower favor only instead of the baby figurine, think wedding figurine……no offense to anyone else, but this just isn’t me, nor my FH….so i’ve been getting a lot of WHAT???s from my family when i tell them i’m not doing them…..lol
-no flowers at all…..i’m not a flower type of girl….why can’t i just hold a cute purse?? seriously….lol
-not getting married at a church…..again…mostly coming from my family…they all have gotten married at a church whether they attend it regularly or not….i’m sry, but FH and I don’t go to church so why have our ceremony there??
Colored shoes, BM’s paying for their BLACK dresses, Flower Girl picking out her own dress, oh and this one woman freaked when she found out I was marrying a Jew and not a Christian… Needless to say we don’t talk anymore and she isn’t invited to the wedding.
I’m walking down the aisle to Radiohead, for a number of important reasons. Calm down everyone, its being done with a string quartet. People won’t even notice it’s ‘weird’! Still, everyone’s like… lolwut?
I’m going dress shopping alone for the first few rounds. Once I decide on a few, I’ll take mom and/or a maid or two. People think I’m NUTS.
These are the only two real ‘weird’ things so far. My Fiance constantly whines, “why can’t you just be traditional and do things like a normal bride?” He wants me walking down the aisle to “Here Comes the Bride” and recite the standard vows instead of writing our own and go dress shopping with 39023 people and wear a long veil instead of a birdcage… oddly enough, HE’S the one who’s driving me most nuts. 🙂
I went on my final dress shopping trip by myself and it was great to know that no one was swaying my final decision. Have you thought about inviting people around for the early rounds and then doing it by yourself later instead? Though I don’t think it’s nuts to do it either way.
i told two of my Fiance friend’s wifes (who just got married within the past year) that I was wearing non-white shoes (navy and yellow) and you would of thought I told them that I was waslking down the aisle naked!
Ours all are about the same! 🙂
No flowergirl/ring bearer
Cakeballs for our cake
hmm thats all i can think of right now!
No alcohol, no Bridesmaid or Best Man or Groomsmen, no bouquet or garter toss, spending the night/morning/getting ready with my FH, cupcakes instead of cake, no professional photographer, and doing my own hair/makeup. People get their knickers in a twist over the silliest things!
