@mightywombat: Yes…. this. Here is my average conversation:

Them: Where are you registered?

Me: Nowhere.

Them: Oh. Well what should I bring as a gift?

Me: Nothing.

Them: Right. But really, what can I bring?

Me: Really. Nothing.

Them: … *blink*

My mother even felt the need to send a CB link to me along with the message “Even DINKs need stuff.” But yeah, still haven’t registered.

People are majorly concerned over the fact that I’m banning group dances (Electric Slide, YMCA, etc). Goodness.

My mom definitely was concerned over my brightly-colored shoes, but I’ve shown her photos of recent weddings and I think she’s finally on board.

– No flowers

We’re doing a night time candlelight wedding for our vow renewal, and I will be walking down the aisle to “The Wings” which was one of the themes featured in the movie Brokeback Mountain.

Everyone seems to be horrified by this since it was in a “gay movie” and that’s what people will associate it with.

A) I don’t care, love is love and that’s what I want the general theme of the evening to be anyway

B) No other song captures the emotion of the journey that has brought us to this point. So everyone can just bite me!

The Wings, Gustavo Santaolalla

Using my peonies flowers from my garden that bloomed in June but my wedding was in July…

I cut them before they opened and stored them in my fridge; about 70-80 peonies.

Everyone thought I was crazy to take this on but understood that it was going to save me a lot of money, they were more impressed but still thought I was nuts….

@amyddlz: a mashed potato bar????!!!!! I would be standing in front of it all night, for real!

@Miss Tattoo: Potatos and alcohol….two of my favorite things! They make potato vodka too, you might look into that.

@LGenz: How did you train your dog to be your ring bearer? I love the idea!!!

As for me….

1. We’re having karaoke. People give me this sympathetic look, as if I don’t know they think it’s tacky.

2. I’m doing my own make up and hair. WHHAAT?

3. I’m an agnostic getting married to my Catholic fiancee in the Catholic Church. WHHATT??! WHAT?! REALLY? Yes, really. Suck it, haters. lol.

4. We’re doing our reception an hour after the church ceremony in FI’s parents’ backyard. That’s got a lot of why’s.

I’m getting flack for having the venue not in the city and the hotel 28 miles away. It’s much cheaper that way and nicer!

Also, I’m having a bounce house for the kids – I have a son and I don’t want him to start bugging me an hour in that he’s bored! So this will help keep him busy and having fun!

Not to mention no veil, cowboy boots under my dress, guys aren’t wearing ties, a friend is making my cake. I like to think if they want it their way, they can pay for it! This is what we want.

I think the weirdest things about my wedding for people are that we are doing an ice cream bar for dessert and only having a small cake for cutting purposes.  No cake will be served.

Also my colors threw everyone for a while (purple & green with some silver).  When my mom first heard them she said she immediately thought of Barney…no mom, not that green and purple!

Finally that my BMs are carrying clutches instead of flower…craziness!
