@soyjoy222: I’m in the same boat… I feel that I will jinx something by looking at or planning anything. All I do is sneak around on here hehe 🙂 Hopefully I won’t be on the waiting list for too much longer so I can plan!

I am planning.. my bf gave me the okay to plan.. we are having a destination wedding in the DR and we already communicated with the wedding planner over there working out deals .. I already have my colors the style of the bridmaids dresses etc.. We even have a date for next year.

But he believe in surprises.. and he wants to ensure i have that memory so he said it will be when i least expect it …

it makes the waiting process easier to handle because i am busy working out all the details for our wedding.. lol and our save the dates is schedule to be delivered July so i guess the proposal is going to be pretty soon….

Wishing all you ladies a wonderful and SOON proposal … lol Laughing

Before I was engaged I did a lot of “fantasy” wedding planning, like creating inspiration boards and looking around at venues.  I also started saving up money because I knew a proposal was coming sometime soon.  My one piece of advice is to start getting price quotes from places you’re considering.  Don’t think of it as jinxing yourself, just email a few venues you like and give them an approximate date (like a Saturday wedding in Summer 2012).  Also ask recently married friends in your area how much their total wedding cost (it’s not rude, friends love to share this number).

I thought I was going to have enough money saved for our wedding, but underestimated by about 10K.  I was crushed when my Fiance and I put together our budget and I saw how much more the type of venue I wanted was going to cost.  It’s just easier to know it in advance!

So in response to my earlier post… I retract my statement about not planning before the actual engagement. While out by the pool this afternoon my Boyfriend or Best Friend out of nowhere says “let’s talk about it” to which I responded “‘It’?” We’ve talked about marriage, children, a house, our future together for quite some time now, but I try not to bring it up so he doesn’t feel pressured. We haven’t talked details because we were going to wait until we were actually engaged. He said he wanted to start looking at things to get ideas together, HE said we should create a spread sheet of venues, vendors etc…. I was a little taken aback… I mean, we’ve talked but it’s usually me asking etc lol I’m starting to wonder if the whole ‘not bringing it up’ thing really works… I’ve only been a quiet girl for two months, and he’s wanting to start planning things. So since he initiated the conversation and ideas… we have started looking together at things/places today 🙂 I know my ring will be coming in 2011 as he said by the end of the year he will ask me to be his forever (he wants the proposal to be a surprise as to when/where all of that)…. so I’m thinking 2011 just got a whole lot better! (and will have to put my ‘jinxing it’ feelings aside hehe) I’m glad to see that so many start planning/looking before the actual engagement, it makes me feel a LOT more comfortable with all of it!!!

I’ve been scoping out venues, marking dresses that I like, gathering inspiration photos, coming up with lists of DIY things that I can do once planning actually starts- basically gathering tons of inspiration so I can start immediately once we are finally engaged!

I read this post yesterday and thought, ‘There’s nothing I’ve planned. Probably would just want a small reception because that’s expected.’ Then I looked over to SO and asked if he’d like to elope instead. He thought about it and said he’d prefer that. So, that’s what I’ve planned so far – we’ll elope! Will probably still have to do a tea ceremoney (cultural) to honor my parents but it’ll be immediate family only.

I haven’t really planned anything either. I have ideas in my head of what I’d like when the time comes – mostly from watching “Say Yes to the Dress” and from helping my friends plan their weddings, but nothing concrete. SO and I talked about getting married summer 2012 with an outdoor tent reception. But that’s about it.

I did absolutely nothing before our engagement, and I did absolutely nothing for 6 months after we were engaged…because I planned on a Fall wedding and having a full year to plan before the big day.

Then my cousin announced her wedding date as being the week before our tentative (not-yet-announced) date, and I went into shutdown. We called off the date and our wedding planning for the time being.

A few months later, around Thanksgiving we decided to set the date…for three months later.

Call me crazy, but I planned our wedding in three months. 200 guests, all outside vendors, we did all of the stationery, centerpieces, planning and bargain-hunting ourselves. And it was a major success! It was even better than what I had envisioned for the fall wedding.

For me, working under the time pressure was ideal. I didn’t have time to overthink anything; I made my decisions and stuck with them. I know it wouldn’t be for everyone, but it was hard enough after those three months to withdraw myself from the wedding planning mindset. I can’t imagine planning for a longer period of time!

Best of luck, and congrats on your impending engagement! I want to hear how he pops the question! 🙂
