@Rachel631:  I just think people are weird if they don’t care about the quality of their silverware.  Like that tin shit from Walmart or whatever?  UGH.  I need my silverware to have a certain weight to it.  I get mine from Reed & Barton.

@peachacid:   I’m the same way about people’s dishes – china, stoneware, etc.  I despise Corelle, I can’t understand why people like it.   I want to eat off something nice.

I don’t really go garage sale shopping [thank you, work-on-the-weekends], but even if I did, I wouldn’t stop at yours if you can’t spell “garage,” “yard,” or “sale.”  Or if there is a sign that says “100 dollar’s.”  I just won’t, even it’s a killer deal.  That really bothers me & I know that this is a thread for ‘in’ other people’s houses, but I think this still counts because I still judge you!

It doesn’t bother me so much the fact that my brother is an absolutely terrible housekeeper, as much as it does that he owns “Santa’s Slay”.

A horror movie with what I am assuming to be a murderous Santa? I don’t know. I am not watching it, but something about people actually paying to watch things like that bugs the crap out of me.

@iarebridezilla:

Nasty toilet that I could tell had not been cleaned in months.  It was gross.  I held it ’till I got home.

This is disgusting but when I was in high school I babysat our neighbors 2 kids. They were 3 and 1. They had decent  house but it always smelled awful. One day I was in the baby’s room looking for extra wipes and opened his closet. It was HALF FULL of dirty diapers and roaches.

My mom wouldn’t let me go back. Lol.

+1,000

I realize sometimes people can’t afford even things that might come from department stores. Maybe they are trying their best and trying to pay bills, take care of their kids, debts, etc.

Or they may not even like it. I lived with a girl who refused to buy anything expensive. I admit I looked down at her but guess what? She had like 70,000 saved in the bank because of living like this…so ya. She thought it was ridiculous to buy from anywhere but Wal-Mart. Another friend had like no plates or silverware because she never cooked. Ever. She ate at Whole Foods every single day. And she also travelled the world. Not many people can say they have been to all the places she had. She just chose to spend her money on travel than nice things in her home…that was her priority.

So I learned that you really can’t judge because you just never know!!! =)

@peachacid:  I don’t think that the reason people have silverware from Wal-mart is because they don’t care about the quality. Maybe they can’t afford anything nicer. I remember when I first graduated from college, I had a ton of student loans. It would have been nice to spend my money on Reed & Barton, but instead I focused on the responsible/boring thing by paying down my loans and would have used plastic forks if I had to.

Exactly.  I might judge you for having a party at your house and not bothering to clean the bathroom so that your guests may use it as necessary, but I will not judge you for not having top china or silverware.  As long as it is clean, I do not care.  People choose to spend their money differently and the circumstances limit you somewhat.  I, for example, can certainly afford pretty expensive plates but guess what? I choose to have Corelle because 1) they actually do not break easily–I have dropped them MANY times; 2) I rather use my money to travel, pay my student loan, my house and my condo; and 3) I just do not give a crap about the brand of my plates.  They are pretty.  They are clean.  I like them.  End of the story.

Yikes…now I’m scared to have people over.

Our home is clean and sanitary, but:

1) I do not make the bed every day and I’d simply shut the door if we had guests.

2) Until recently our utensils were from Wal-Mart because I couldnt afford to replace the expensive ones BF accidently left in FL when we moved back. Hope no one has been offended eating one of my lovingly cooked meals with crap silverware.

3) Our home is uniquely decorated…because I’ve made or painted nearly everything. Lots of blacks and bright colors. I never knew someone would “judge” us on decor much farther than “hmm, not my taste.”

4) Our fridge is full of soda. Not vitamin or mineral water. Soda.

5) We have a near-fully stocked bar first thing when you walk in

6) We only have 2 full sets of wine glasses: one set was my great grandmothers and the other is plastic and hot pink with a flamingo as the stem.

@peachacid:  what a weird thing to judge about considering you started a post recently about being stuck feeling poor…? So you know how it is. I mean I get it, we all have different tastes and priorities but surely you can see how someone would rather spend $20 at target than triple digits for “nice” silverware.
