(Closed) What have you “given up” during your pregnancy?

I gave up alcohol but that wasn’t hard for me because I’m not much of a drinker, I gave up caffeine which was really hard for me because I usually drink coffee everyday and coke.  I’ve also stopped eating deli meat but I might start eating it again by warming it up first.  I came close a couple of times.  I still eat seafood.  It’s always been a part of my daily diet but I don’t really eat that much fish.  I’m still going to eat sushi but the cooked sushi like chicken teriyaki etc.  I still plan on getting manicures and pedicures once in awhile.  Hopefully once I pass by first trimester.  3 more weeks!

I think I’m pretty relaxed.  I gave up alcohol and cut back on caffeine, also cut out deli meats and raw sushi.  I think that’s it!  I still drink a cup of coffee every morning, just cut out the extra cup in the afternoon.  I have had a few sips of beer here and there and had a small glass of champagne on my babymoon. 

Oh, I also gave up tanning (a secret guilty pleasure).  And at 20 weeks I stopped running b/c it was just too uncomfortable – so, I have reduced my workouts.

I gave up caffeine, alcohol, deli meat. I did eat fish but limited myself to what was “Safe” to eat.

@NYC.BOS.CHI:  It’s soft serve that’s the issue. The machines have lysteria just like deli meat.

I have tried to cut out all foods that were suggested. After 3 miscarriges, I am trying to do as much as possible to protect my baby.  I can’t wait to eat sushi!

Um…. alcohol and raw sushi. There are some things I really didn’t eat or do before (smoking, soft cheese, tanning, etc) so I don’t really count them but, for real… I didn’t change that much.

I feel like eating some deli meat if probably better for me than spending 9 months all stressed out and paranoid.

I cut out caffeine in the 1st tri, once I could stomach it again part way through the 2nd tri I started back to a cup a day or so. I quit my cardio/weight regimen… but that’s kind of a an irrational/emotional issue for me, I was training really hard and experienced a miscarriage and it spooked me. I quit drinking less the odd sip of DH’s beer when he drinks craft beers, adjusted a few OTC meds I’d take if needed… but other than that life has gone on as it otherwise would have. I eat lunch meat, give in to the occasional DQ craving and love my cheeses!

@abbyful:  I couldn’t agree with you more re: fear vs. facts. There’s a lot of misinformation out there and it seems like nobody bothers to fact check anything. Even listeria risks are so warped from one food product to another.

@NYC.BOS.CHI:  Soft serve can pose a risk if the machine isn’t maintained properly and kept clean. Bacteria can grow in the parts where the fro yo comes out.

I’ve stopped drinking coffee. Mainly because it smells disgusting to me now. But I see no harm in one cup a day. I’ve cut out deli meats, runny eggs, undercooked beef, raw sushi, alcohol.

I gave up alcohol, although I had a couple of sips of champagne at christmas and new years. Raw fish (I miss oysters and sushi so much), smoked salmon and most other deli meats although I am not  big deli meat eater anyway. I stopped drinking tean and coffee and instead have a coke everyday. I don’t eat runny eggs and I always have my meat cooked medium well. The last two are more for DH’s sanity than mine. Other than that, I haven’t really noticed uhge changes. I miss smoked salmon the most. I can’t wait to have a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel.

Alcohol, sushi, bloody steak and soft cheese…. oh and I prob won’t colour my hair until after the first tri. But I think that’s it…. I haven’t been eating very well but my MS is so bad I’m just having what I can face. This baby loves ice lollies and cookies!

Alcohol is the only thing I give up completely during pregnancy; otherwise, I just cut back (like caffeine) or never did it in the first place (like smoking).  Personally, I’m a big believer in everything in moderation, but I found I’m even more lax with this second pregnancy than I was with my first.  🙂  It’s just a whole different ballgame, the second time around!

I gave up alcohol, most caffeine, deli meats and soft serve ice cream. I’m not a huge fan of cheese anyway, and now the smell completely turns me off altogether! I love fish, so I’ve just been avoiding the high mercury fishes as well as any sushi that contains uncooked fish (most of it).

I also had to give up running :o( B/c I’ve had 2 losses, my doctor just told me to give it up through pregnancy as a precaution. I try to walk briskly, but it’s just not the same! It’s funny, I never thought I’d be concerned with any of these things, but after having the losses, I’ve become hyper-sensitive to a lot of this stuff.

Ummm I gave up alcohol and other than that I haven’t changed much. I also plan on painting the nursery. Which tons of people totally frown upon but there is nothing proven in the new paints that can harm you…. I dunno I want to be a part of that step it is important to me. I have just learned to knod my head when people chast me about it. I also paint my toe nails all the time!

I did give up my Zumba class but that was because all the jumping around makes me nauseous.

Cheese causes autism? Oooookay.

Honestly, I haven’t changed *too* much. Soda I’ve cut way back, and I switched to decaf coffee. I use more natural cleaning products now in place of the Pinesol stuff I usually buy. I still eat seafood, I just eat tuna very very sparingly. I never ate deli meat before, I wasn’t a smoker or a big drinker so those things haven’t fazed me at all.

Sex (told to by doctor), alcohol, soft-serve ice cream.

I’ve had deli meats about twice, coffee here and there (2x a week usually), and I still eat my burgers or steaks medium rare. I’m not a seafood or sushi fan, so no worries there.

The hardest things to give up were sex and red wine. lol

Overall I’m trying to be healthy but not go too crazy over it. The most difficult things are unpasturized cheese, alcohol, and testing the cookie dough. I used to LOVE my morning cup of coffee but the smell started turning my stomach before I even found out I was pregnant, so that’s out but I’d gladly have some if I could stomach it! Technically I also gave up raw & high mercury fish, soft serve, sprouts, and runny eggs but can probably count on both hands the number of times I consumed all of them combined in the past year, so really no big deal. I never eat deli meat or other potentially undercooked meat anyway. The only other change is that we delayed painting until we can keep the windows open.
