I spent a few days at my SO’s parents’ house for Thanksgiving last week. I was amazed at how much my SO’s mom filled her time with different hobbies. She rarely sits around and wastes time doing nothing and if she does, it’s for a short time. I, on the other hand, spend way too much time in front of the tv and surfing the internet. Mindless activities!
But she has inspired me to try and start filling my free time with things that actually matter. I don’t want to look back and realize I wasted so much time doing nothing when there are so many things to see, learn, and explore!
Some hobbies I’d like to spend more time on:
Running/5ks, yoga, crafting/DIY, knitting, sewing, bike riding/cycling, reading more nonfiction, thrifting, & more in depth cooking. Now, this probably isn’t realistic as I have limited time & DO like to relax (aka be lazy) in the evenings. But I at least want to attempt to start doing more.
What about you?

I’m looking into falconing this year, something so elegant about the activity as a whole, a raptor, its keeper….plus Mr. 99 calls me Ladyhawk, so it’s kind of a thing.

@pokie45: I just started running alot and I love it so that I would like to do more! Also I really want to learn how to knit or crochet..my grandma tried to teach me when I was younger but since I’m left handed I found it super hard to follow her becaues everything I had to do was backwards from her! I also want to plearn how to play and instrument.. I have always wanted to learn the violin.

Nature photography, woodworking (like making bat houses etc.), and a little phytochemistry – making my own herbal preparations. My botany course students already make Calendula Balm and Eyebright tincture, but I want to learn some more to share with my students.
It’s amazing the time you have to pursue other interests when you don’t play video games or watch TV!

I would love to spend more time writing. I barely get to these days and I miss it. I’d also like to learn to play the cello.

@pokie45: Wow! What a great list!
I also want to do sewing. Someday I want to be good enough to sew costumes but for now learning how to use a sewing machine. I also want to get better at cross stitch and needlepoint (the only crafty things I can do somewhat well). I would love to become a better baker and, like you, read more nonfiction. I’ve found that listening to books on tape/CD is helpful so I have a non-fic on stuff people own. Sounded interesting.
I also would love to hit my yearly book goal of X number of books a year. I think I might actually make it this year!

Running, cooking and blogging. Instead I sit on WB or watch Netflix all night.

I’d love to learn how to sew. I’ve always loved fashion design, but I can barely sew a straight line, so I won’t be on Project Runway anytime soon 😛

Since the wedding has been over I’ve gotten more into my hobbies again… photography, painting, hiking. Though lately I’ve been slacking with the cold weather and busy holiday stuff so my goal is to yet again get back into my photography, painting and hiking.

I’ve always wanted to learn more about sewing! I also used to be big into art and that has fallen by the wayside big time; I’d like to get back into that.

I want to paint my house. It’s fairly light colored walls but I like rich brown and caramel colors.
