I was curious, I live in rural AZ and looked up houses for sell. There wasn’t anything for $500k, the closet was $400k for a 4 bedroom 3 bath 2,692 square feet and 36 acres of land (1 acre is about 43,000 square feet so 36 comes out to about .05 miles of land).

karen12:  I think I saw some on Zillow!  You’re right, though.  There is one near me that has a large sign that reads “NOT FOR SALE.”

I live in Washington about 45 minutes south of Seattle. $500,000 can get you a nice home 3,000 sq ft 4 bed 3 bath with a view of the water.

With a $500k budget on our area in Oklahoma, we could easily buy a 4bd 4bath, 3500+ sq ft home or larger! Darling Husband and I are currently building our first home and it will be 3bd, 2bath, and 1650 sq ft for $165k!

I know this is a US post but for those who live in expensive places I thought I’d let you know that in South East England not in a big city but in a town with a 30-50 minute train line into London, for the equivalent of $500,000 (£344,000) you’d get a 2 bedroom flat (appartment)  around 700 sq feet or a more run down 2 bedroom house with small garden. We live in an overcrowded part of the world so American houses tend to be huge compsred to ours. And it’s getting worse with more and more people cramming into the country and our towns being covered over with concrete and more tiny new build flats!

I live in London in zone 4. We rent, but it’s a tiny 3 bed, 1 bath Victorian terrace with a small garden. To buy it’s about £500,000 (a little over $700,000). You could definitely buy a house right here for $500,000 but it’d probably need to be fixed up, be fairly small and have a very small garden.

all and any of them lol

the mansion behind us sold for $434,595 and its rediculously big but we where recently classed as the cheepest town with 3 bed houses starting at around $23,000

we rent but out house would be $105,760 based on the last sale price… its a nice 3 bed house with 2 big reception rooms and in the good part of town but its cheeper than the surrounding ones because its got a very bad history, I dont care though… cheep rent

I live in south west Louisiana and you can buy pretty much just about any home you want for that price. The average house price here is $150-180K. In New Orleans that price wont get you near as much inside the city, but outside it will.

My parents bought a massive 3,600 sqr foot house for $400k around our area.

bambiiandthefox:  I used to live in CA. Expensive!!! But so warm and pretty so it’s worth it. Right??

I’m in the Twin Cities/ Minnesota. I googled it and found most were 5 bedroom, 3 bath 3000-4000 sq ft for $500K-$600K. Here’s one where the back (bedrooms, master bath tub etc) look right out onto a lake!

MY house is much more … eh hem … humble. 3 bedroom, 1 bath 1200 square feet. I think it was about $145K.
