I’m coming up to the 100 day mark until my wedding and I’ve had to cut back here and there but I still feel like I need something “different” or unique to add to my wedding to make it different from all the other weddings I’ve been to this year
and ok ok, I’m not one to follow trends generally but I also like the idea that people will remember my wedding for something new that they may not have seen before. I still remember the first wedding I went to that had a photobooth and everyone talking about what a good idea it was. So please share your ideas, post pictures and what you’ve seen recently in weddings to give me and other bees new ideas!

Wouldn’t something different or unique mean that it’s not “hot” right now? I just mean, if photobooths are hot, that’s not really different or unique. We are adding a lot of personal touches to our wedding, mostly having to do with our interests. We are both scientists and I am an avid reader, so we are doing things like naming our tables after our favorite books and we had little serotonin molecules on our invitations.

Interactive food stations seem to be a growing trend. Candy bars have gotten a lot of play, but other examples I’ve seen or heard of are: mashed potato bar, s’mores bar, ice cream sundae bar.

I guess what I mean is, what’s up and coming in a wedding, as apposed to something everyone has seen already.
Mine is the next wedding in my circle so I guess I’m just looking for ways to make it different. The fact that it is in Winter is different in itself!

Well hmm it’s in winter so that is really neat…I know nothing of how to throw a nice party 😛 but maybe something cold themes…like iced drinks, sorbets, snow cone station 🙂 Or maybe an ice cream bar and gelatos!!! Or…would it be the other way around…you want warm stuff in the cold months? Oh well, now that I’m thinking about it, an ice cream/gelato bar would be kick ass!!

I think that most of the “trends” that we know have been done a lot are still really, really new to the general public. We’ve seen a zillion rustic-themed weddings with photobooths and clever table names and food stations and thumbprint trees, but most people don’t scour wedding blogs like we do. All the hot trends right now will be totally new to your guests!

So I think you want people to list things that are trendy now so you won’t do them? If that is the case then I would say: photo booths, candy bars, and midnight snacks.
Some cool things I have rarely seen are: cigar rollers, flavored alcohol infused in front of you into chocolate covered fruits like strawberries.

I love some of these ideas
– hiring a caricature artist – they knock those things out pretty quickly so your guest shouldn’t miss too much of the reception – you could have them write Blank & Blanks wedding and the date
– Ice luge – Not the most classy but could be tons and tons of fun – my guests would have loved this haha – especially this one since you put a shot glass under the luge instead of your mouth haha. I’ve seen the latter
– late night snacks = bit sized foods. like cookies and milk, mini pizzas or sliders. I’ve seen it on the blogs but never been to a wedding that passed them out.
-Entertainment = Hire professional dancers during dinner or recently i went to a winter wedding and they had christmas carolers during cocktail hour. I thought it was so neat!
-I went to a wedding that had personalized shot glasses on the tables and a bottle of grey goose in the middle for everyone to share. Some venues would totally not allow that though.

- Wedding: November 2013 - St. Augustine Beach, FL
We’re having a nacho and wing bar towards the end of the evening to fortify our still partying guests before hitting the after party at a local bar.
