hegetsme:  I don’t know how your industry works but since you’ve been out of the office environment, are you concerned with how only 5 months of time at this job will look on your resume?

do you have any career goals? Will getting that promotion in a year help your achieve the goals?

i do think it is rare to work in an environment where you get along with everyone, there are no jerk bosses, and everything is wonderful all the time. From what you’ve said your current place might be worse than usual though. If it is really making you miserable and you don’t have to have the job I dont see why it hurts to look for new work.

I think some of those issues are big deals (like the racist jokes and the lazy coworkers) but some are just issues that you have working in a small business (broken AC, no IT person, etc) and some are really none of your business–a lot of times people who are higher up the food chain work on salary and can take longer lunches or leave earlier because they may be doing some work at home. If you HATE it there, of course, find somewhere that makes you happy, but you might want to try to figure out what the biggest problems are so that you can find a place that fits your needs. It sounds like you would be happier in a bigger company with an HR department and more people to pull their weight.

I think there’s crap like this with every job.

I feel like I probably could have wrote this post, except our AC has been messed up for 3 years.  It is “stuck” in a mode that you never know if you’re gonna get freezing cold, boiling hot, or comfortable.  At one point half my vents were blowing heat, while the other half was blowing AC…and I stayed having sinus problems until I figured it out.
