Fiance and I were originally considering eloping, so I’ll just answer with our original plans.

1. St. Lucia at the Sandals Resort

2. We wanted to save money and not stress over wedding planning.

3. We would have had a small party when we got back. Probably would have rented a private dining room at a restaurant and hosted a dinner.

4. The family didn’t handle it well at all! This is why we decided to have a traditional wedding. They insisted they had to be there, which defeats the purpose of eloping.

5. We would have sent out announcement postcards to friends and family.

1. Where did you go?
Gizo in the Solomon Islands – a 3rd world country in the south pacific as we are also scuba divers

2. Why did you /would you elope?
because we decided we simply wanted to get married and not have a wedding

3. Did you/would you have a party when you came home?
yes, we had 2. a big catered event at home for 100+ people and a smaller restaurant no special fuss lunch for immediate family (about 15 people) from both sides

4. How did/do you think friends and family would handle it?
positive.  many greek and italian cousins wished they did it, one cousin (fiji) and a friend (vanuatu) copied last year. MIL was the only one that said “i didnt see my son marry” but that was her only comment

5. How would you/did you announce your marriage?
we mailed out “message in a bottle” announcements. small corked bottles and inside each one was a scroll of paper announcing when and where we have eloped to.  these were also our bomboniere so had the sugar almonds wrapped in tulle on the outside with a tag with our name and dates

Darling Husband and I didn’t elope, but there were many,  many times that we considered it.

1. Where would you go?
We probably would have gotten married in Venice.

2. Why would you elope?
Because our parents were driving us up the wall and at least twice a day one of us would say, “F*** it, let’s just elope.” We ultimate stuck with the wedding we were planning, but it was tempting…

3. Would you have a party when you came home?
Maybe, something low-key with our friends. No big reception or anything, that’s what we would have been eloping to avoid!

4. How do you think friends and family would handle it?
Our parents probably would have flipped out a bit and been disappointed at first, but they’d get over it. Our friends would have been happy for us regardless.

5. How would you you announce your marriage?
Upload a photo of our hands wearing our wedding rings to Facebook, wait for the stunned responses to come in. And at some point brave visiting our parents to tell them the news.

@TequilaSunrise:  Sometimes I do. I feel like eloping would have taken out all the wedding drama and would have been truly just about us and our love. Eloping seems very romantic to me. I am looking forward to my traditional wedding, but it is frustrating when I realize how much it’s costing.
