I tried on some mermaid dresses yesterday and I love them! I showed the picture to my girl friend who is one of the braidmaids and studying Fashion Design. She doesn’t think I look good in a mermaid dress so she thinks i’d better not choose mermaid style. That really upset me!!! Her body is super skinny so I bet she will look great in a mermaid dress. But honestly I don’t think I look bad in that dress at all. Now I just can’t help feeling upset after her comment….. 🙁
So does the mermaid dress flatter my figure or exaggerate my hips too much?

Well that dress DOES look beautiful on you, and you definetly have the figure for it. Is it that she thinks mermaids are too trendy? Ive heard input on the subject and I can see both sides. I guess it depends on if showing your figure, or being classic is more important to you. But she shouldnt say such harsh things, its hard enough to decide on a dress! You need to wear what makes you feel most beautiful and elegant. Personally, I really like this dress 🙂

You look amazing! She should hush.

I think that dress looks GREAT on you — seriously, I never lie when I don’t like a dress on someone, I think it gives you an awesome hourglass figure. Some girls who don’t hva hips can be kinda snobby towards those who do (and vice vera, I know, but that’s not the point of this response), but most guys like it when you have some curves going on to fill out the mermaid dress. And I would consider you skinny, your waist is so small! You just have the right amount of hips, which in my opinion makes the dress look good =) And that dress is super pretty! If you decide to get it I would straight up tell your friend, “I know it’s not what you would choose if you were me, but I feel great in it and love the dress, so please just be supportive and say nice things, ok?” lol

She could have made that comment for a lot of different reasons.
I think that you look good in a figure hugging silohette, perhaps the bottom is a bit poufy, though.

I think you look amazing im jealous lol so I wouldnt take it to heart!

Did you resond to her comment? How about asking her “Why not!? I like it!” and see what she says. She could have other reasons for saying something like that… (maybe she wants one and doesnt want anyone to wear one before her?) I’m also not a fan of mermaids (all I see is hips when I see mermaids) so I might say somethign stupid like that too if I was your friend. Even though I’m not a fan of the style, I dont think it looks bad on you at all.

I don’t know what sort of advice you are looking for with this post, but I personally think that that dress does draw attention to your hips. That’s your decision if that’s what you want.

That dress really shows off your astonishing (in a good way!) figure and the fact that you have the classic guitar shape that is considered SO feminine. I think it’s fabulous. I don’t think the high fashion world really tolerates hips and maybe your bridesmaid has been influenced by that thinking. (Or maybe she just doesn’t like that style of dress, period.) In the real world where most of us live, you have the kind of low waist to hip ratio that is considered extremely attractive! If you feel comfortable highlighting that (and why shouldn’t you?), then don’t let your bridesmaid make you feel bad! In my completely candid opinion, you look gorgeous in that dress.

I think it looks awesome on you!!!

You showed it to your friend, knowing she was studying Fashion Design so you knew you would get an opinion, right? Unfortunately her opinion was not the one you wanted 🙁
I am a similar shape to you (probably bigger hips though) and am avoiding Mermaids for this reason, it draws attention to the hip area. If you want that then great, but if like me, it’s one of the less favourite parts of your body then I would go with something that accentuates your little waist or sexy shoulders 🙂

I think you can absolutely rock a fitted dress but I do think that a fit and flare would suit your shape more than a true mermaid/trumpet. Your curves are gorgeous but it does draw attention to your hips.

Girl, pay her NO mind because you are ROCKING that dress. Maybe she’s just jealous. I hate to throw that out there because it seems like women can never be happy for each other but I’ll bet that’s the case.
ETA: What is the difference between a fit and flare and a mermaid? I thought they were the same.

That dress looks so great on you! Just remember you are the bride and what you love is what you should go with. Either she is jealous that you look so great in it or her fashion isnt yours in the end its what you want to look like for your wedding! I believe the shape accentuates your curves beautifully!

I don’t know, I think it draws attention to your hips in a good way. As in, it shows that you have a curvy figure. I really like it on you.
