What irrational/nonsensical thing do you do?

I worry about things that are highly unlikely to happen, and not so much about things that could happen. Like, I’m terrified of leaving a crock pot on all day and having it burn my apartment down with my dogs in it. Or, the other day my fiance wanted to leave the fan on for the dogs since it’s been getting hot in our apartment and I was scared that somehow it would spark an electrical fire.

I know these things are SUPER uncommon, and luckily I don’t actively worry about them but my fiance thinks it’s pretty irrational.

Having grown up religious, praying through struggle, decision-making, stress, etc became an ingrained habit.. so now as an atheist or at least agnostic adult, I still sort of pray but not to a deity, I just think real hard about what I want and “wish” for it. I know it’s pointless, but it makes me feel better.

I will drink tap water from the kitchen sink, but not if it comes from our bathroom sink. I have actually diagnosed OCD though, so I have a lot of weird little quirks like this that don’t make sense to anyone but myself 🤷🏻‍♀️

I sleep closest to the door. If I am not closest to the door when traveling or on vacation then I dont sleep. Its a left over thing from being abused by my ex. I used to have to flee in the middle of the night, even now, he is in prison, I have the best hubby ever, and I still have to sleep closest to the door.

The one that really makes no sense is about a hamburger. It has to be bun, mayo, lettuce, meat, tomato, onion, bun from the top down. If its not put together like that, I wont eat it until I rearrange it.

I have GAD so I’ve spent the majority of my adult life learning to be rational.

There is one lingering oddity though, when going to doctors offices (mostly my daughters pediatrician now) I have an instinct to park in the same spot each time I go, or the same general area. I feel like the appointment will go badly if I don’t. That instinct isn’t that strong anymore but I actually still give into it lol. I won’t circle the parking lot if the spots aren’t free though, but I will think that things might not go well if I park somewhere else.

A big one used to be that if I had a very bad day, I wouldn’t wear the same combination of shirt and pants again. I would remember the outfit I wore that day and wouldn’t wear it again. I also had a lucky interview outfit

witchypoo13 :

Kitchen water and bathroom sink water have always tasted different to me. I’m with you on that, though I will drink from the bathroom sink when brushing my teeth

Sansa85 :  I park in the same spot all the time for work, dr appointments, etc. It’s a pretty normal habit, I think. Sort of like how everyone picks a seat the first day of class in high school or college and keeps it all semester.

I will step on the scale every morning, I know, not a healthy habit. It helps me feel like I’m in control and on track or not.

I also have to sleep with the fan on but with a blanket. Doesn’t matter if its 30 degrees, I need the air to circulate! But I also have to sleep with a blanket because I don’t like to feel the wind on my body. Makes no sense and drives my husband crazy. We are in Texas, too😂
