It’s a light chocolate. It tastes like chocolate cake, just not as rich as a regular chocolate.

Heaven, LOL! Seriously, I Loveeeee chocolate cake. I think a semi sweet would be the best. Too much chocolate in a german chocolate will take away from the coconut and you want them to mesh together perfectly. Not have one overpower the other.

There is a specific type of German baking chocolate you can use -I think Baker’s brannd makes it. It’s more of a mild chocolate flavor.

@kimm99:  THIS.

I actually JUST learned that German chocolate cake is not a German food, but rather named after its inventor, Sam German. German chocolate is a specific type of chocolate, but generally I think you could use any type. WHen I make German chocolate cake, I just use my favorite chocolate cake recipe…which uses cocoa, because really, I don’t want to stop at the store for something I don’t really use any other time.

The frosting is the most important part. I like this recipe for mine.

I have never tried this cake but when looking at the other comments, it sounds like I have to make them some day, sounds tasty, hehe
