Well I think it’s a great rate, but of course that’s all relative to the quality of their work.

Generally a photographer will charge you a package PLUS travel (airfare, hotel, rental car, and per diem for food if not at an all inclusive). However, many photographers will lower their rates considerably PLUS travel if it’s a destination they really would like to shoot at.

@SimpleGifts:  That is pretty much the average starting price of a full time professional if no travel was involved.  So if this person is good you are getting them for dirt cheap.

I think it depends on the travel costs. I love the photog we used here in NY and they did my sister-in-law’s destination wedding for a little under $2,000.

@Styles:  Any advice for hiring a friend/photographer for a DW?

I want my friend to make money but I would also hope that if she weren’t my photographer she would be coming to the wedding anyway. Should I pay for all travel expenses and her fees?
