@vorpalette:  The center stone is his great grandma’s and we bought the setting from a jeweler.

@abirdword:  I agree. It totally depends on the finger size and the design.

I think it really depends on the finger size. On my size 4.5 finger 1 carat looks quite large, while on other people it may look just right or even small. We bypassed the engagement ring before getting married. He still wants to get me one eventually when it’s in our budget (a ring is not a priority right now). However I do have a diamond RHR with a 1/6 carat center stone (1/4 cttw), sometimes I wear it on my left hand with my wedding band (1/4 ct eternity band) on special occasions and it actually doesn’t look half bad. Ideally I would like somewhere around 1/2 ct for a solitaire diamond, larger for a sapphire.

Itthat vawhere depending on where you live. For my area and age group my .8 center stone is much larger than average. I was at a out of state wedding today and most of the women’s rings were roughly the size of mine, and the brides was almost exactly the same size.

I think it depends on the size of her finger. Personally, people with larger, more pudgy fingers sporting a 1 ct or smaller, tend to look REALLY small to me. In camparison to their hand. Whereas people with thinner, more dainty fingers can sport less than a carat and it looks massive on them.
