I’ve had to ask myself this same question, trying to figure out who I want as bridesmaids. I go to school 10 hrs away from my home town, so I’m also juggling some long distance friendships. I consider my close friends to be:

my best friend since 2nd grade. We hardly see each other anymore and have both grown to be different, but we text frequently. I love hearing about how she’s doing and want the best for her. When we get together in person you can’t tell how much time has passed.

my friend from high school. I’ll admit that she put more effort into the friendship than I did when i moved away to college, but I am so glad she did. We share everything and can talk about anything and give advice without worrying about hurting each other’s feelings.

my 2 best friends from college. The three of us tell each other everything. Together, we experienced all of our first “adult” problems and situations and have all matured together with each other’s influence. The mark of a best friend to me is someone you can bare your soul to without feeling self conscious.

a casual friend is someone you can go out with, have meals with, invite to parties, but don’t seek a deeper connection than that.
