Three things that you will love (and I typically buy for new moms):

1) Gerber cloth diapers – 12 pack – Not for cloth diapering.  I have it on good authority from multiple moms that these are the best spitup rags.

2) Dishwasher basket – Have fun sanitizing stuff for the first few weeks but after that you will appreciate being able to toss nipples and pacifiers in the dishwasher.

3) Plain white socks – Trust me on this.  You will love the cutesy matching pairs but the drier eats them and some babies are masters at kicking off one sock so you end up with lots of singles.  It’s nice to be able to always have a matching pair in the drawer and if you run low, you can just buy another bag and still use the old socks (well, until they go up in sizes.)

I wouldn’t worry about the diapers and wipes.  However, if someone is throwing you a shower I would add to the invite a request for diapers and wipes and make it part of a raffle for each package of diapers/wipes they bring (i.e. for each package you got to enter into a drawing for a gift certificate to Starbucks.)  The last shower I went to they did that and she got way more diapers and wipes than I had ever seen.

We don’t have a ton of space in our house, so I registered for stuff we will need the first three months. I didn’t register for any clothes except a few white long-sleeved onesies, lots of people will get you clothes and they usually pick what they think is cute…relatives are already sending us stuff and I haven’t even had my shower.

We only registered at Amazon because if you find something from another place you can add it to your Amazon registry with their Universal registry button. A good example is a boutique brand of baby balm and cleanser (Indie Lee) because I love her story, philosphy, and her grown up products. I can put them on my Amazon registry and it has a link to the website where you can purchase it. I also have some Etsy nursery decor tied to the Amazon registry.

We thought about registering at Land of Nod because of the completion discount, but it turns out that the glider we want there isn’t eligible for the discount so it wasn’t worth the extra work of registering with them, we just put the few decor items we liked on our Amazon list. Yeah, read the fine print on those registry completion offers, they often omit entire brands Cry
