We are doing a destination wedding in the domnican BUT we dont want a tropical theme.

We are aiming for a softer feel. maybe a hamptons beach colour scheme. Does that make sense?

We had a French cottage/countryside kind of wedding. Darling Husband loves fishing so the antique fishing creel and reel were from my grandparent’s barn. I love books so we used that element for centerpiece stands and an escort card holder. Most of the antique decor we used was stuff my family had so it felt personal.

Our wedding is going to be at a zoo so I am just going to include some subtle animal themed things in (tables labeled by animals, animal crackers as favor).

Ours is geometric/ eco friendly. Lots of metallics and I’ve been growing out an entire garden of succulents since we got engaged almost 2 years ago. All our centerpieces are ” repurposed”, I went to our local thrift store and picked up some old lights to use for centerpieces. Will look like this:

Palette is colorful with gold accents. We’re eloping just the two of us to mexico. No extravagant ceremony or reception so there won’t be a need to decorate much. I brought papel picado because we’re getting married around the day of the dead and I thought it would be a nice touch to our gazebo venue.

Here are the papel picado I brought:

Our veune:

I’m going to be DIY silk flowers to match the papel picado. They will work as my bouquet. Then the extra will be used to decorate the flower headpiece I’m making and to decorate the broom(we’ll be jumping one). I like the idea of a candlelit aisle on the beach. But we haven’t decided if we want to get married at sunset or not.

I can finally join in on this game! Getting married in Puerto Vallarta, December 2017 – my fiance is Mexican and I’m Irish/Scottish.  Going to use my tartan (Black Watch) as table runners or table cloths and papel picado banners in dark cream.  For the ceremony I think think I’ll lighten it up with some soft moss & rose colours, as my tartan is deep navy blue and dark forest green and I don’t want it to be too much of a contrast against the tropical setting.   I’m having a hard time finding inspo pics of tartan weddings that aren’t straight-up Christmas (especially tartan used in tropical venues, ha!), so here’s my mishmash from Pinterest – the table cloth isn’t my tartan, but close.

I kind of went with my color scheme (blush & champagne, white) and went with just elegant as my style. I guess that was my theme! I just chose really classy pieces, flowers, etc to give it a clean and modern look. I did everything myself as well so it helped to have decided exactly what I want. There is also a list of really nice actual theme ideas that I found here http://blog.bestmiamiweddings.com/before-the-wedding/which-wedding-theme-is-right-for-you-2/. They are more specific themes so maybe there is something that stands out to you on the list..I personally love the Great Gatsby theme!

Lots of white and green, going for a more boho/modern feel. Thinking of adding some marsala to the mix.
