Silk Dupioni is silk woven from two different color threads so that it appears shimmery or changes colors in the light.

It is also a fabric that is less smooth than other fabrics. You can order swatches from Aria (or of course go to a fabric store) if you’re interested in specific colors for bridesmaids or even for your own dress. Silk is generally quite light and breathable – good for summer. However, keep in mind it doesn’t stretch.

My google search turned up the suggestions that silk dupioni doesn’t wrinkle, which is why it’s good for formalwear.

Sorry to dissapoint, but hellyeah dupioni wrinkles–but it does hide it (a bit) better.  Dupioni is also called raw silk—it has an uneven surface texture that is a bit nubby or ‘shot’.  It’s a beautiful fabric, and is fantastic for an outdoor event.  It also ‘wicks’ (as in, absorbs sweat and draws it away from your body), another outdoor bonus.  A lot of Pronovias dresses (which I wore) are dupioni.

Yeah, dupioni definitely does wrinkle.  It tends to be less expensive than other silk fabrics, too, because the reason it’s ‘slubbed’ is that it’s woven from broken/imperfect silk threads…so that’s a plus.  The sheen and breathability of silk without as hefty a price tag (in most cases of comparable quality fabric).
