it definitely depends on the designer… i think 6 months is a good average… it can be up to 9 months, though! sometimes you can pay extra for a “rush cut,” so that might be an option, too. i might recommend to try on dresses to get an idea of what you like? then you can plan around that designer’s schedule for when you need to order the dress… you can also see the rate at which you are losing weight, so you can plan on what size to order in that way. however, it is much easier to take in a dress than to let it out, so don’t get too aggressive with planning on losing weight so much that you can’t meet your goal in time!

@jackndiane:  I’d say from any place that you have to order the gown, a one month rush is about the fastest you can do.  However, that will be like paying for a gown and a half.  Three months to five months is probably the safest best w/o a rush payment.  As PPs have said, some designers are a lot longer.

Personally, I’d give it nine months, since a lot of dresses take six to seven to come in and you don’t want to pay the rush fee or cut it too close.
