What is the average cost of a nice 3600 sq home in your state?

You could get a really really dated, run down, needing a LOT of work 3600 sq foot house in my area for $400k. Anything desireable or ‘nice’ is 600k-millions, depending on land, upgrades, etc.

I ended up looking–that’s kind of an uncommon size where I live (rural MI). Most houses are either average family homes between 1,500-2,500 square feet or are basically mansions that are 5000+ sq ft and cost anywhere from $600k-$2million. There was literally only 1 house for sale around 3600 sq ft, and it’s new with what looks to be higher end fixtures/features, and they priced it at $315K although it’s on a small lot for our area (quarter acre).

sscott06 :  I also live in Houston.  We’re in the energy corridor which is not suburbs but not in town.  Best of both worlds.  In my area, at least $500k+ for a 70s 3,000+ sqft house not updated.  upwards of $800k-$1M for newer and updated.  My hubby and I are moving to LA in a couple months though and I am having super sticker shock.  We are going to have to buy a 2/2 condo with 1,200 square feet for $550k.  It’s so sad after living in inexpensive Houston for my whole life!

Varies across the state. Around my city: in the good school districts 600-800k. In the crappy one, 350-450.

5-6 million in the city, between 2-3.5 million near the big suburbs. Depending where you are in the country, could be 600k, could be a million.

New construction of that size goes for just under $400k for a 1/2 acre, and $280k for 1/4 acre. Average is 200-350k for that size on about a 1/2 acre in the biggest city and surrounding suburbs. Go out of town by 20 minutes and there’s a 4000 sq. ft. house on 31 acres listed for $650k. I’m in Southern York County, Pa, a 1hr commuute from Harrisburg, Baltimore, or Lancaster depending on which direction you drive.

sscott06 :  We have such a range here, if you’re more south of the city a 3600 sq ft home goes for around 350-400k and if you are on the lake you could be spending a couple million. We are building a 2400 sq ft home and spending just over 250k for it.

I actually thought it would be closer to a million in my area, but I checked zillow for some recent sales of houses around 3,600 sq. ft. where I live (a suburb of DC and Baltimore), and they went for $550-700k. I purchased my 820 sq. ft. condo for $160k.

That really depends what you consider nice. I am in south Florida. Usually, the nice houses of around 4000 sq. ft. will cost at least a few million if they are on the water. If you’re just looking for a normal golf course home probably around $700k. If you go about 20 minutes into the rural areas, around $300k for a new build.

At least a million plus in the city and suburbs here. Small condos in less desirable areas of the city would start at about $400k.

I live in London. Anywhere from about £3,000,000 ($3.7m USD) upwards. I love looking at property online and estate agent windows, and there is currently a house on the market which is about twice that size and is £55,000,000 ($68m USD). It’s insane.

At least $600k here (outside Philly).  Not terrible but definitely out of our price range for now.
