It’s not really a specific phrase as much as it is a lifestyle: live a balanced life.  Don’t let other people stretch you too thin and get rid of emotionally draining individuals.

“You teach others how to treat you.”

I try to remember this as I am somewhat passive, and a people-pleaser by nature!!!

@MissusLane: I believe mine might also be a Dr. Phil quote 🙂

@wrkbrk:  Yes, yours is a Dr. Phil-ism, as I call them.  One of the other ones from him that I like is, “You left for a reason.  Don’t go back!”  I learned it the hard way…but I’m good now.  lol

‘Never love anyone else more than you love yourself.’

Basically meaning even if you really care about someone, make sure they’re treating you well, and respect yourself enough to know when to leave/fight/etc. respecting yourself is super important.  From my mother, back when she was nice!

“Actions speak louder than words”

Bar none, the best life advice. As years pass, the meaning deepens!

When I joined a sorority in college, one of the upperclass girls told me, “You get out of Delta Gamma what you put into it.” Basically, if you get involved in the house, get to know the girls, go to events, you’ll have a much better experience.

And I’ve applied that to life in general. If you’re an active participant in life, give it your all, you’ll find you’re much more satisfied and have more rewarding experiences. If you sit back and let life happen to you, and don’t put in any effort, there won’t be as many rewards.

It’s hard sometimes, you just want to check out. You don’t want to become emotionally invested, care about something more than you should. But, you get what you give.

@happilyeveraftergirl:  “Befriend the other weird girl in your public speaking class” 😛 JK, no one told me to do that obviously,  it just happened.

Probably something along the lines of “be a doer not a talker”
