I like my clothes smelling clean aka no smell.  I actually react to the detergent other people use.

Gain definitely is the strongest smelling detergent I have ever used.

Gain detergent and vanilla or lavendar fabric softener sheets (both Downy I think?  can’t recall the brand, I just buy according to the smell).

The lavendar aromatherapy softener sheets leave the longest lasting smell I’ve found.

@Coral99:  Why not put the nice smelling dryer sheets or a scented satchet in the dresser drawers, or wherever the clothing is put? That might make the clothing smell nice longer. Just swap out the sheet every so often if it fades in scent. Also, stuffing a dryer sheet into a shoe (leave overnight) helps considerably with stinky shoes!

I noticed that Tide Pods didn’t give my clothes any long lasting smell at all.

@AB Bride:  Me too πŸ™ Fiance LOVES fabric softener, but I can’t handle the smell because it gives me a massive headache. His mom washed our sheets with a shitload of fabric softener (she doesn’t put it in the cup with water like you’re supposed to, she waits for the cycle to hit the right spot and dumps it in on the clothes).

I used to love Method Baby detergent and fabric softener in rice milk + mallow, but they discontinued that scent for laundry. πŸ™

@vorpalette:  I wish people would leave the scented stuff to their sheets, towels and other stuff that doesn’t go out in public if they really like it!

I like anything lavender so I usually go with lavender-scented Suavitel for fabric softener. I think the trick to getting the clothes to lock in that smell is pulling them out the dryer just before they’re fully dry. My sister does this with Tide and Suavitel and her clothes ALWAYS smell good.

My Fiance swears by Gain so that’s what we use. We normally get the “Apple Mago Tango” scent because it’s my favorite. We get the matching dryer sheets too. I used to use the Tide and Downy Lavendar/Vanilla but Fiance doesn’t like it :
