I have a friend at my pilates gym that is turning 60 this year (she does not look it AT ALL!) and her husband bought her an early bday present of a 5.6 round diamond solitaire. It’s enormous and she wears it to class! I can’t stand to wear any jewelry when I work out.

@mkendrick: If I had that ring I would wear it everywhere. Even making meatballs like a PP said!

@dontknowwhattodo: Your post came at the EXACT right time for me. I recently upgraded my ering/band to what I consider to be an amazing set, with a .93 ct center stone. I have admired the rings of two of my coworkers for many years, and I was really going for a beautiful, blingy yet elegant look in white gold because of how beautiful their rings looked. I saw both of them at different times on the same day this week….and I let each of them know how much I had always admired their rings. When they showed their rings to me and I got a closer look, I realized that now, at this point, my ring is nicer than EITHER of theirs!!!! So because I work with a lot of guys, older single women, conservative-ish women….MY ring is the biggest one I know of IRL. And now I can never move/change jobs because I kinda like it! 🙂

I worked with a woman who had a huge ring, I would guess something like 2-2.5 carats. My former SIL’s e-ring was, I think, 2.3 carats.
I guess I don’t know what the average is in my area, but I would guess it’s somewhere around 1 carat.

I have an aunt who has a 2ct round solitaure with a wrap and my cousin has a 2ct emerald cut…both are not of excellent quality. I have another cousin who has a 1ct round and I have a 1ct princess…everyone else in my circle has smaller than that.
But just being out and about I se 2+ cts all the time. ,75-1ct is the norm.

it depends on if you are talking about just diamonds or overall stones in rings.
well, i have seen the crown jewels irl so those about take the cake for any diamonds or gemstones.
as for diamonds, i tried on a 4ct solitaire once. it was not a good quality stone at all though. as for other stones, i have seen a lot of large carat ones but i am not sure of the sizes. i have an 8 ct padparadscha sapphire. that is the largest one that i own.

My grandma’s center stone is 5 carats. It’s not her original e-ring, it was for their 40th anniversary I think.

The biggest of people I actually know is about 1 carat. 0.50 to 0.75 are most common in my area in my age range

I’m reading all of these responses, and I realize that I don’t know anybody’s e-ring specs, size of the diamond, or clarity, or nothing! Is that normal? LOL.

About 2-3 when I was working in Silicon Valley back in the early ’00. Also San Francisco Pacific Heights district. Piedmont, Tiburon and other affluent towns in the Bay Area.
I see mostly .5-1 on average, “regular” folks – not just regular in income but also not all wealthy people want to flaunt it.

Myself as well as most of my close girfriends have rings with 2-2.5 ct centers…But I think it happened because our fiances were trying to compete with each other in a way..But in general, in my city I see rings with 0.5-1 ct centers..
The biggest ring I’ve seen in person was a ring with a 5ct center..My friend’s father gave it to his mom for their 30th aniversary..

@dontknowwhattodo: I have seen a 3.5 carat but it is from my mothers friend who works with wholesale and is getting my 1 caract solitare enhancer for cheaper than my 1/2 carat AND of better quality!

i see a lot of 2cts but i work in a pretty affluent suburb. the biggest i’ve seen were about a month ago i was talking to a lady whose rock must have been about 4ct solitare and years ago back when i worked in a tanning salon one of the clients had i think like a 6ct center
