First, I have to agree that this is the BEST thread! I am getting even more ideas looking at it! Please keep adding!
My favorite things (thus far):
1. Luau rehersal dinner including a pig roast and karaoke
2. Our centerpieces will include pictures of us and the guests sitting at that table (which are named after our favorite restaurants)… we have about 10 months to make sure we have pictures with everyone!
3. We are getting married on an island with no cars… just golf cars which we will be decorating!

This is a great thread!
It’s hard to choose, but I’ll have to say its a tie between scoring a free wedding photography package from an international-award winning photographer and and the generosity of many other vendors who are helping us get past our broke-ness and have the wedding of our dreams!
Keep the good things coming – I love to read about everyone else’s excitement!

After the frustration of trying to arrange a traditional catholic ceremony in Orange County, CA we did a complete 180 and have decided to have a destination wedding at Negril, Jamaica with a sunset ceremony!!!!! I’m getting more excited about it! I think my parents are still struggling with the thought…. 😛

Our wedding was held at Fort Adams, a Civil War fort on the edge of the water in Newport, RI. So we had Revolutionary War Reenactors (they have prettier uniforms) and a cannon went off as we were announced as husband and wife….because seriously, when ELSE can you have a cannon?!

We chose to perform a butterfly release in memory of our loved ones not at the wedding, particularily my father in law and our daughter.
The most memorable event of the wedding occurred as the butterflies were starting to fly, my husband and I both put our fingers out and each had a butterfly land on our fingers. The butterflies stayed for a good 30 seconds and not a dry eye in the room. Our photographer snapped a picture of my husband with the most comforted and peaceful look.

We’re having two kegs of Leinenkugel’s beer at our reception. It’s brewed in my FI’s hometown and we’re having it shipped all the way to FL.
Instead of a traditional cake topper, we’re using a Lenox tree decorated with rose-colored garland. The cake will be covered in cherry blossom vines.
I’m wearing a Seattle Seahawks garter which will thrill my Fiance to no end.
Our favors are marzipan leaves imported from the UK.
We’re doing a wish tree instead of a guest book.
Anyone pick up on the tree theme? 🙂

Love this thread! We’re getting married in a natural history museum, complete with dinosaur skeletons and huge stuffed polar bears. We’re having a prosecco bar, where people can choose their own mix-ins (like Coldstone, but with alcohol!). We’re also having a popcorn cart (a surprise for my FI) late in the night, since it’s his favorite drunk food. And we learned how to polka, since it’s my FI’s parents thing to do at every wedding/big event (it’s a surprise for them!).

Our first dance is to an inappropriate hip hop song! I had typed the song and artist but my Fiance is sitting here telling me not to tell. lol. Its our favorite song and we always dance around our apt. to it when cleaning. I used to be a professional dance instructor and will be choreographing the whole thing 😉
My mom is planting all the gladiolus for our ceremony flowers. We’ll only have to pay for the reception farrangements. She also baking all of my cupcakes and well only have an 8" cake professionally made. She is sewing all of the table runners and linens out of beautiful fabric I bought 80% off at a going out of business sale.
My dad is building an arch for the outdoor ceremony, a lounge for the cocktail area, and the cupcake tier.
Its going to be a long year!

Our reception is outside at an Oriental Garden right on the water. I am a nanny part time and the people I nanny for offered to get us a boat to leave by at the end of the night. So then we talked about arriving by boat too. The reception is about a 20 minute boat ride from the church. The whole wedding party will be arriving to the reception by boat. It will be a great time to hang out, relax, and enjoy some time with my fiance before the party starts!

Both of our dads will officiate. We love that it will symbolize the joining of the two families. Plus, I adore our dads. They’re not ministers so we’ll get them ordained online.

I had really wanted our musicians to play "All You Need is Love" by the Beatles as we walked down the aisle after our ceremony 2 months ago. It’s from Love Actually and I love that scene in the movie! My husband was in charge of the music and told me that the musicians couldn’t do it for some reason and I believed him since I had so much other stuff I was worrying about a few weeks before the wedding. I was bummed but it was okay and we picked another more generic song. So after our ceremony my husband told me to look up (we got married in a courtyard with a big balcony overlooking us where our musicians were set up) and he had hired a choir to sing with the musicians that song and surprised me! Most of our photos from that point on have me standing there with my mouth wide open because I was so surprised!

couple of things we’re doing:
1 – my Fiance is performing the father/daughter sond while my dad and I do a choregraphed number
2 – we’re handing out guitar picks as wedding favours
3 – the Fiance an I are doing a surprise performance during our reception
