If it’s for the experience, then I would get the ready-made sugar cookie dough and roll it out then cut shapes.  Make sure you put flour down and on the rolling pin.  That kind of dough is really simple to make anyway, so I don’t think it’s cheating that much to buy it.  Get the cookie frosting and different colored sugars and have a blast decorating them.

Another fun thing is to cover things in chocolate and decorate them.  Get a bag of chocolate chips and melt it 30 seconds at a time, stirring each time until soft.  Scoop it into a freezer bag and snip off the end to drizzle, or dunk stuff right in and then lay on wax paper or foil to cool.  Pretzels, Oreos, Nilla Wafers… everything is good drizzled in chocolate!  You can then sprinkle on the colored sugar or Christmas sprinkles for a final touch.

I was going to suggest the break-n-bake cookies, but Miss Longcoat has a great suggestion!  I have never thought of drizzling melted chocolate onto things!  I am going to have to try that 🙂  Thanks!

It’s also really fun to cut out sugar cookies and then you can paint them by making “paint” with egg whites and food coloring. I used to make butterfly cookies like this. Thank you Sesame Street.

Shortbread! Normally I don’t use cookie cutters but you definitely could roll out the dough flat and do that. Here’s my recipe:

350 degrees for 10 minutes
– 1 lb butter
– 1 cup icing sugar
– 1/2 cup corn starch
– 3 cups flour
– 1 tsp vanilla

Cream butter and icing sugar. Add cornstarch and gradually add flour with vanilla. Drop spoonfulls onto cookie sheet and press with a floured fork.
