Tonight we were picking readings for our Catholic ceremony. Neither my Fiance or I are religious, so we were going through trying to pick the least religious choices. I was appalled by some of the readings going on and on about how the wife is to be obedient and basically becomes the groom’s property. FI’s response: “Let’s use it, it’ll be hilarious. All of our friends will be cracking up!” My response: “Umm… you realize this is our wedding ceremony, right!?”

All of our close family and friends would definitely find it hilarious because we are so non-traditional and that is so NOT us, but the last thing I want is people laughing at my wedding ceremony.

Fiance is a hunter/outdoorsmen and while I love the outdoors and we are having a fall outdoor ceremony at a state park lodge; he thinks antlers for centerpeices, deer meat for our dinner (that he killed by the way and how he thinks he’s going to kill enough deer to feed 300 people is beyond me) and the men in camo tuxes and us women in orange is acceptable…..he got a blank stare for those suggestions. I hope he was joking but he looked serious…which has me scared lol.

Laughing so hard at this thread right now!!

My Fiance comes up with some crazy suggestions…

Me: “Wow, look babe, this place (our venue) has another area at the top of those stairs.”

FH: “Cool, we could play beer pong up there!”

Me and Mom: “NO!”

FH: “I want to wear a white tux with a top hat” NOPE

FH: “I’m nervous about having to stand up there in front of everyone” then proceeds to tell his Groomsmen that they have to learn the dance to “Thriller” to do it at the reception…this makes no sense to me!

@leecy87:  This whole thread is fantastic! Just a thought if you want to make your fiancé really happy, you could have a dummy cake to display at the reception, then have ice cream cake in the freezer in the kitchen to serve to guests. This probably wouldn’t be much different than having a sheet cake in the kitchen to serve to guests to save money!

we’re getting married in a castle, so my fiance was desperate to wear a full suit of armour, with swords attached. Im thinking our engagement photos he can wear his suit of armour, that will make him happy, and give us awesome photos. I got away with saying no for the ceremony because itll be too hot that day, but im still expecting to have this discussion again.

@ashleyr0512:  That’s hilarious!  I’d totally do it at my wedding if there was someone in my area who could do it!

Oh thank god for this thread!! I was beginning to feel awful for saying no to some of his suggestions and really worrying about his judgement. Now I realized, he’s just being a guy.

@futuremrsndl:  That sounds like an AWESOME wedding. I love Samuel L. …we were going to invite Quentin Tarantino to officiate our wedding but decided that our ceremony would last FOREVER….we’d like to keep it short.

SO is absolutely STUCK on Star Wars stormtroopers. Nothing else, just the stormtroopers. I mean, I have no problem with a Star Wars wedding but we’re not SW geeks. We geek out about a lot of other things but SW just isn’t one of them.

“What about Firefly jumpsuits?”

“No, stormtroopers.”

“You don’t even like Star War–“

“No, stormtroopers”

“But it’s going to be June in CA, it’s gonna be hot–“

“No, my wedding, I want stormtroopers”

“I don’t even think they can find stormtrooper outfits big enou–” (Our groomsmen are all 6’4+ and built like linebackers)

“No, stormtroopers”

“It’ll be expensive to rent those costumes–”

“We just won’t have a wedding cake.”

I had to stop him there and pull the veto card. lol

One of the other things he wanted to do was have him and all the men in the family go on a hunting trip and then cook up their catch for the wedding. Luckily, all of the men in the family shot him down. I felt bad, his heart was in the right place.

“It would be cool…it’d be like our first meal that we’d be cooking truly as a family”

We’re compromising. The morning before the wedding, he and the men are going fishing and (hopefully) will catch enough fish for us to cook up for our welcome/rehearsal dinner, campfire style.
