@Sunshine_icicles:  that’s hilarious, but I was expecting you to say it was your period!  Fiance and I were also having a particularly spectacular night this weekend and he randomly got a drippy nose bleed.. he managed to catch it before it got on me though, but my sheets weren’t as lucky :S

@MrsPhilly:  I have an IUD, and I can feel the strings. I was told you have to feel the strings in order to know the IUD is still in its correct place, and you’re supposed to check every once in a while ; I do at least once every month. My gynecologist did not cut the strings too short, because she told me some men felt the raw edges while having sex (which doesn’t happen when the strings are slightly longer). Also, I’m using a Diva Cup, and it’s not counter-indicated to use the two together. It worried me at first, but my gynecologist told me to use it, no problem. I’ve never had a ”succion” issue of any kind using the menstrual cup and IUD at the same time. Been using the cup for 3 years and the IUD 1.5 year, no problem. 🙂

ETA : I also asked my gynecologist, if ever my man was doing ”manual” sex moves on me, could he accidently pull out the IUD ? She told me it was not possible to get a firm grip and then just pull it out of place like that, especially ”by accident”.

@NauticalDisaster:  ahh good to know.  I wanted to try it, but it says on the box not to use with an IUD.. I figured it’s probably safe to use and that’s just a recommendation, but i didn’t want to risk it.  I was never told to check the strings.  He said after my ultrasound that if it was fine, then I wouldn’t need to worry again until it was time to remove it.  But since then I’ve had a few ultrasounds for other things so I know they’ve looked at my IUD since then and would’ve said something if it were out of place.  Maybe I’ll talk to my dr again about the cups… they sound like a vast improvement from tampons!

@MrsPhilly: I never noticed they said not to use a cup with a IUD. I asked directly because I was afraid of the succion hehe. I guess if you’re a beginner, it can be uncomfortable. The cup needs an adjustement and a few trials and errors before doing it right. I’ve had a few succion fails the first times I’ve used the Diva Cup (without the IUD) and it hurts. You’re supposed to pinch the cup to break the succion before taking it out, but I don’t know, I was nervous and tense at first and didn’t do it right. By the time I got the IUD, I was well accustomed to the cup so it wasn’t a problem for me to use both. But I guess my gynecologist would have told me if there was a risk ? I hope so lol.

@MrsPhilly:  As Nautical said, you’re supposed to check the strings about once a month to check that your IUD is in the correct place. I think if you are very careful you can use a cup, you just have to make sure you break the suction before you pull it out. I have heard of people who accidentally pulled out their IUD by just yanking their menstral cup out with out breaking the seal.

@Eckle:  yikes!  Ok well i will definitely wait until my IUD is out before I give the cup a try!  I’m having another ultrasound next week (to check a cyst on my ovary) so maybe I’ll ask the tech to take a look.  And double check with my dr during my follow up if I should be checking… my gyno never told me… he said he cut them short so they wouldn’t be i teh way and that once they’d double checked it’s location after 3 months, I’d never have to worry again.  Maybe it’s one of those things where differernt doctors have different theories/beliefs… meh.  That must be a slightly weird experience eh? Checking for the strings?? lol
