The very first thing we dealt with was finding the right minister.  I refused to plan anything else until that was done because it was really important to me.  It took about 6 months (long story behind that), but because we had an 18 month engagement, it all worked out.

I guess you could say I’m having a destination wedding, it’s in the mountains 5 hrs from my home and the ceremony and reception will be in the same place and we are using a JoP. I can’t stop thinking about trying on dresses tho! It’s stressing me out, I have less than a year till our wedding (October9) and I’m technically not engaged (come christmas morning I better be 😉 so i chose Dress!

The Dress. I thought it would be the easiest thing to find, turned out to be the most agonizing decision. Also you kind of need to start shopping early since most stores will tell you dresses take 6-12 months to arrive (even when it’s not true) and you may be charged a rush fee or have to settle for a sample gown if you wait till the last minute.

I chose the ceremony site, because I feel the ceremony is the most important part of a wedding. But the reception venue was a close second. After those two were secured, I could breathe a sigh of relief because at least with those two booked, I knew we could physically have our wedding somewhere.

The venue I think was tops for me. I have a very specific layout I want to achieve and that was the only place I could really do that. Plus it was big enough to do the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. And it’s really close to home.

The venue was really important to me, but I placed the most emphasis on finding the dress. I’m really, really top heavy, and I was worried about being able to find a wedding dress that I wouldn’t spill out of. Prom dress shopping was a nightmare, and I’ve gained about three cup sizes since then :P. Luckily, it was a ton easier than I thought it would be :).

The wedding location (and I say this because we had our ceremony and reception at the same location) was most important to us. It really set the tone for the entire event and we wanted a picture-perfect place that was very special and unlike anything we had encountered before. It was the first thing we booked – a year and 4 months before our wedding.

I wish we could’ve ranked them in order of importance.  Although I selected ceremony site as #1, I also spent a ton of time searching for the right officiant and reception as well.

Our ceremony and reception are at the same venue.  This was the most important decision for us.  We wanted something that we felt was “us” and was within budget.

Originally, we were adamant that #1 priority was having the wedding on Saturday night.  Well, Saturday nights at this venue were booked over a year in advance.  We liked the venue so much that we decided to go for Sunday.
