Bacon and cheese. I think those are the two biggest. I’d rather put money towards better quality food than non-food items.

We buy name brand TP, detergent, hair products, trash bags and soap. Sometimes whether or not I buy generic is dependent on the store I’m in. I really like a lot of Target’s products, whereas I tend to hardly ever buy Walmart’s brand of anything.

In general I’m really brand loyal so I don’t tend to jump around a lot.

It would be easier to list what we buy that’s not name brand! For us, it really depends on what’s on sale. We often get non-name brand TP and kleenex, depending on what’s on sale, I’m not too picky as long as the TP isn’t cottonelle and the kleenex are 2 ply, as well as regular laundry detergent (I buy Woolite Dark for my darks, Woolite colour for my coloured clothes and then generic Tide free for ‘regular’ detergent, basically for whites and non-work clothes). We also buy generic spices, generic pop, and generic zip lock bags. Pretty much everything else is name brand. If we had to really start cutting expenses I’d downgrade my shampoo and condition and most of my personal care items, probably not necessarily down to generic, but since my complete line of facial care comes from Sephora, my hair care is all a salon brand andwhat not, even just switching to say L’Oreal or Oil of Olay and Pantene would offer some big cutbacks. About the only things we absolutely will not buy generic would be Kraft Dinner, ramen noodles and Ketchup, even if we were desparate. I suppose we’d be in trouble if we both went broke!

I only ever buy my toiletries in one place and am rather picky about my deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, “girl products” etc.

I’m also willing to spend some extra money on quality food. Organic whole grain pasta is sooo worth it!

Wet Swiffer pads.  Target brand ones don’t clean nearly as well as the name brand!

I’m also gonna go with TP!! Used to go cheap but switched and will never go back! Dog food is another, my puppies eat good 🙂 Contact solution is another must–I can’t compromise even though the price gap between generic and name brand is like $5-$6 I don’t care.

Deodorant!

Also, laundry detergent, toothpaste, and feminine products. Everything else sundry, I buy generic. I am brand-specific when it comes to food, though…

Oh, and bounty papertowel…  good brands of make up and shampoo.

Not a snob about a lot of things, but when it really makes a difference, I will splurge.

I’m very specific about my toothpaste and of course the lady products.

As far as household stuff goes… we’re pretty open to trying non-name brand stuff!! I coupon a lot though so I get some name brand stuff for way cheaper than I would normally. I usually always get dawn dish soap, but I use that for homemade cleaners as well.

Food wise, I am very picky about my seafood! I try to stock up when it goes on sale, but I hate rubbery shrimp!!! Also, cream cheese. I has to be Philadelphia otherwise it’s just crap.

@PonytailKim:  Definitely TP as well, paper towels, feminine hygiene products, shampoo, laundry/dish detergent, a few cleaning products.  We also went for trusted name brands for our big appliances just to make sure we didn’t have to buy them in 2 years.

OB tampons.  Only thing.  Probably a miniscule minority with that one.

Love OB.  Only ones that work well for me.
