Work… when we started dating in our last year of law school, we had already accepted positions at rival firms (our practice area is pretty small) in different cities (SF and LA). It didn’t make sense to us to move given that we were both just starting our careers and jobs were hard to come by. It’s been three years; I’m moving after the wedding. We see each other once or twice a month. I

My BF and I of just under 3 years are not currently in a LDR, but we will be again soon. We started dating in May of 2008, when he was just about to graduate high school and I was finishing up Grade 11. We were in the same city for 2 months, then did 14 months of LDR because of his job & school, then lived together for 8 wonderful months, but have been living at opposite ends of the city we grew up in since last may.
I’m moving back for school this summer, so we will be joining you all in the LDR camp. We’ll both be at school for the first 6 months or so, then if he doesn’t get a job in the same city as me we’ll have to tack on another 18 months or so to that number. *sigh*

@Snowy414: Our relationship has always been a long distance relationship. It’s kind of funny. At first, I was jealous of him! See, we play an online game together, and he was in my raid group when I first started raiding. I couldn’t stand him, but then he became a permanent part of the party, and we slowly began to talk. The more he told me about his likes, the more I realized I liked him.
Some may find this sad on my part, but I dumped my boyfriend to be with him because a part of me had always wanted him. The first time I heard him speak in vent, I was just like, ‘wow…’ my heart skipped a beat. Haha, weird I know. But, I think it’s so far worked out good for me. I am absolutely head over heels in love with him.

We’re in a LDR while I’m working abroad for my languages degree… but we’re 5 months down now, two months to go! I’m having a great time abroad but I can’t wait for the LDR thing to be over!

we were long distance from the very beginning, when I met him in Times square in NYC his last day of travelling the world for a year before he headed back to england; I lived in NY while he lived in england, we saw each other every 2 to 5 months average every 3 months
still long distance because he has to go back to the Uk every 90 days til his visa gets processed; I moved to england for 8 months but couldnt get a decent job there, I’m a doctor, so back to NYC and back to long distance it is

We were long distance for four and a half years because I got a job right out of college in another state. He was still in school then, and was really supportive of me taking the job. I left, confident that I’d be able to transfer back to the area within a year or two.
Yeah, then the whole recession thing happened, and we were stuck in a long distance relationship with no way out. He got a great job out of college too, so I supported him staying there. I applied to dozens of jobs before I finally got one and clawed my way back to California.
It’s been five months since I moved back and it’s been awesome 🙂

We aren’t long distance anymore, but we were twice. Once because of school, but it was only for a semester and just a couple hours away so it wasn’t too bad. The second time was right before we got engaged and it was work related. It was only 3 months, but we were 5 states away so it was waaay too long.

We’re not apart yet, but we will be starting May 2nd — for 16 months. : ( It’s kind of school, kind of work. FH has an optional internship as part of his degree, and he got a job in a city 3 hours away (not that bad, I know, but weekend visits aren’t an option because he doesn’t have the money to pay for gas AND rent/insurance/etc. AND save for the wedding/house, and I’ll be working part-time on the weekends for at least another half a year). : / Poo. It sucks.

Techincally, I guess ours started out as career/work. He works with agriculture and Arizona’s agribiz was one of the first industries down the tube. We weren’t dating at the time and kinda fell into after he moved. 1 year, 4 months, and 15 days. We’ve gone so long since moving to Oregon would entail me starting all over on my degree. So on we trudge.
Best wishes to everyone!
