This is probably a stupid question but I cannot find the answer anywhere as I don’t know what terms to search for.
WHAT is the thing called that goes behind the laces of a corset dress so you don’t see bare skin?
I’ve been calling it a plackard thingy but CLEARLY this is incorrect. I feel like an idiot when I’m talking to people and I’m like ‘the thing that goes behind the laces! YOU KNOW….THE THING!’

I believe that is the busk. Not positive though.
And I think you’re thinking of a “placket” which is the strip of cloth that buttons go on, like on a button-down shirt. So you’re actually pretty close. 🙂

A busk is a 2 part closure used to stabilize the center front of a corset. And yes, like everyone else said, what you’re talking about is a modesty panel! 🙂
