So we had a meeting with the photographer I plan to book this past weekend, and we loved everything about her and her work. My only concern is her albums. I was expecting something like the album my parents have–basically a book of high quality 8×10 prints which could be removed. Her albums were all more “collage” style layouts printed onto cardboard pages. Is this what most pro albums are like nowadays? My mom was also surprised when I told her that was what the photographer had.

The type of album you described – with the thick pages, collage-type with images flush to the edges and the book to lie flat when open – is the kind that my photographer does. I like this book myself (although it is costing a pretty penny!), but since it is so expensive, we will only get our album through our photographers. I plan on designing a different album for our parents to have, but it will be a book of some kind (though not as fancy as the photographer’s book will be). I personally prefer the look of the photos on printed pages as opposed to sliding photos into a clear sleeve in an album. Plus, with this kind of album, the photographer will spend additional time editing the photos in the album more than the “touch-up” that will be done on all the images we get on a disc.

you can always ask if they can do a different type of album. ask if they can design a book with eight by tens, or if they cant if u could get either a discount or credit for something else.

Yup – albums are more like books these days, where the pictures are laid out. I actually really love them! They are also expensive!

the type you described are more modern and definitely more expensive. i’m guessing if you really wanted the older style she’d be able to accomodate you…especially since it would be less expensive for her to have made! otherwise you can ask to have the album removed fro your package and just have an album made yourself in the style you want.

I’ve not seen albums like your parents in my research with photographers. Since one of the PP has found one, they can’t be non existant, though! I bet that would be something you could DIY pretty easily, too.

Thanks everyone! I started panicking that I had picked the wrong photographer, so it’s reassuring to know that this is what most albums are like today. I think when it comes time to make the album, I will just let her know that my preferences run towards simpler layouts.
