Perhaps it is boring to some because so many people use it, but our song (for the last 8 years) has always been Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis. We always had it played and danced to it at every single dance we went to growing up (yep, we are high school sweethearts and went to every single dance together – which was a lot, because we went to different schools!), so it was really really special for us to finally dance to it on our wedding day.

Besides that, we are both HUGE Elvis fans ๐Ÿ™‚

We like ‘Foggy Day’ by Frank Sinatra

A foggy day, … had me low… had me down… but suddenly, I saw you standing there, and in foggy london town, the sun was shining, everywhere!

Probably not suitable for our slow dance at our wedding, but definitely has a long history of being meaningful to us!

We have a lot of random songs with lyrics that speak to us.  To name a few of our favs:

Wake up- Coheed and Cambria; 100 Stories – Alkaline Trio; Fly me to the moon – Frank Sinatra.

We are going to prob use Frank for our first song, since the first two have some weird lyrics embedded in the songs.

What a nice question! Our song is really special to us, and me especially becasue he had heard me mention once that it had such a powerful verse in it. My Fiance actually created a book to propose to me with at the musuem of natural history in the African animals wing (he is South African, and felt really comfortable there i guess ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) Anyway… The song is the John Mayer/Brad Paisley version of Little Moments… and the verse..:

I know she’s not perfect but she tries so hard for me
And I thank god that she isn’t ’cause how boring would that be
It’s the little imperfections it’s the sudden change in plans
When she misreads the directions and we’re lost but holdin’ hands
Yeah I live for little moments like that

Ours is “Whatever It Is” by Zach Brown Band.

We first heard that song right after getting engaged and Darling Husband teared up at the part
“You know I’ve never been the type that would ever want to
Bring ’em home at night and they’re gone the next day
But that all changed when she walked into my life
And people askin why it is
Tell them I don’t know
Just something about the woman makes my heart go haywire
And she’s gonna be my wife”

He sang the whole song to me in my ear while we were dancing to it at our wedding.

“Papa Was a Rodeo” by the Magnetic Fields.

It’s, um… a song about a guy who grew up having a bunch of one night stands and meets a guy he likes in a bar.  He tries to warn the new guy off of him, that he can’t commit and will be gone by morning, but it doesn’t work.  It turns out they’re both the same type of person and end up staying together for decades.

I REALLY wanted to use it for our first dance song, but my fiance thought our parents might find it an insult (the guy is promiscuous because his parents ignored him… both of us have good relationships with our parents… any historical promiscuity was just for fun).  He was totally cool with it being about two guys, though, because he LOVES the Magnetic Fields.  We’re going to pick another song of theirs for the wedding.

Mines not a love song…nor does it have lyrics, but when I hear it I relax.  It’s Farenheit Fair Enough by Telefon Tel Aviv.  It was the first song that came on after our first time out climbing together.
