Maybe not wedding song, but maybe just “your song”, or both. Our song is actually 2 different ones that really speak to us. We are both metalcore fans, and rock fans, alternative, what have you. So when we first met, the two songs that he showed me and I completely fell in love with were Pieces by Red and My Curse by Killswitch Engage. I am sure a lot of people think we are crazy for the My Curse song, but it is absolutely awesome.
With lyrics like: “There is love burning to find you, will you wait for me.”
Those are the ones that really stood out. In the beginning he was in a dead end relationship and he was in the process of ending things with her. They were together for 2 and a half years, and the relationship died after 1 year. When we first met, we were just friends from work, and he was trying to find a way to tell me that throughout all our conversations and the messes with our current bad relationships, that he was in love with me. And coincidentally, I felt the same way about him.
Perhaps it is boring to some because so many people use it, but our song (for the last 8 years) has always been Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis. We always had it played and danced to it at every single dance we went to growing up (yep, we are high school sweethearts and went to every single dance together – which was a lot, because we went to different schools!), so it was really really special for us to finally dance to it on our wedding day.
What a nice question! Our song is really special to us, and me especially becasue he had heard me mention once that it had such a powerful verse in it. My Fiance actually created a book to propose to me with at the musuem of natural history in the African animals wing (he is South African, and felt really comfortable there i guess 😉 ) Anyway… The song is the John Mayer/Brad Paisley version of Little Moments… and the verse..:
I know she’s not perfect but she tries so hard for me And I thank god that she isn’t ’cause how boring would that be It’s the little imperfections it’s the sudden change in plans When she misreads the directions and we’re lost but holdin’ hands Yeah I live for little moments like that
We first heard that song right after getting engaged and Darling Husband teared up at the part “You know I’ve never been the type that would ever want to stay Bring ’em home at night and they’re gone the next day But that all changed when she walked into my life And people askin why it is Tell them I don’t know Just something about the woman makes my heart go haywire And she’s gonna be my wife”
He sang the whole song to me in my ear while we were dancing to it at our wedding.
It’s, um… a song about a guy who grew up having a bunch of one night stands and meets a guy he likes in a bar. He tries to warn the new guy off of him, that he can’t commit and will be gone by morning, but it doesn’t work. It turns out they’re both the same type of person and end up staying together for decades.
I REALLY wanted to use it for our first dance song, but my fiance thought our parents might find it an insult (the guy is promiscuous because his parents ignored him… both of us have good relationships with our parents… any historical promiscuity was just for fun). He was totally cool with it being about two guys, though, because he LOVES the Magnetic Fields. We’re going to pick another song of theirs for the wedding.
Mines not a love song…nor does it have lyrics, but when I hear it I relax. It’s Farenheit Fair Enough by Telefon Tel Aviv. It was the first song that came on after our first time out climbing together.
