I am trying to get my two kitties to be a little more active and entertained as well, so I’d like to get them some new toys. They are only 2 years old and so far I’ve bought cat dancers, squeaky mice, etc. They are interested for a hot minute, but then are quickly bored. I’ve tried catnip (two different brands) and they don’t do anything for that either.
any suggestions? Thanks!!!
P.S. gratuitous kitty pictures always appreciated! 🙂

Laser light! You can get them for about $4 at Petco (little handheld ones). My two 2-year-old cats go bananas for them.
ETA: Oops, forgot the kitty pictures!

Grizzly loves plastic bags, like seriously you can leave an empty bag and next thing you know he’s intertaining himself with it for hours.
Felix plays with rubber bands, he will chase after them, throw them, bite them, flick them, it’s hilarious.
Shade loves to hmmm… actually she doesn’t have a toy per say, she LOVES the scratch post we put in their tower, she goes nuts on that thing.

Our cats like the laser light as well. They also love the stuffed catnip toys. The favorite is one shaped like a cigar (I don’t know why it’s better than the banana or the pepper, but they love it more). Of course it’s the one that looks like a giant turd…
And gratuitous cat pictures, because I haven’t plastered them on this site enough 😉

My furbabies love the laser pointer. Also, milk rings seem to be a huge hit with them, and they are zero extra cost.
My one little one also enjoys stealing our straws out of cups and playing with those.

Another vote for laser lights. But mine seem to like toilet paper more than anything else.

Ours likes a dangly stick with a bell toy thing. She crouches down and then hunts it. I think she thinks it’s an animal.

Our cat is obsessed with laser lights. He also has two of these kongs (but not catnip ones) that he will carry around the house (they’re about as big as he is):
and he loves this:
That being said, we have ALWAYS had at least 2 cats in our house growing up and the only cat I’ve ever had that would play with toys is the one Fiance and I have now.

Anything wedding related….
- Envelopes (particularly ones mailed back to us with rsvps and “tasty” stickyness)
- Paper from the crafting (programs, invites)
- Box (holding the crafting papers and such – she crawls into when I’m not watching/forget to close it)
- and the hands down no question favorite? RIBBONS from the presents

Wow! Thanks for all the responses (and adorable pics too!!) Lots of choices…seems to me that lots of kitties just “find” their own favorite toys. Maybe I’m trying to hard..Lol. My one cat does like q-tips. Maybe I should just give one to her for a treat every now and then..LOL
I’ve got a laser pointer and all they do is stare at is, no matter how much I move it, what I point it at…LOL..
@MrsFeatherbottom: What is that last picture of???
@couawilou: love the kitty in the bag pic! too cute!!
@kay01: aah! my cat does love ribbons too! but I’m so afraid he’ll eat them!!
@hopefloats: I kept a dishwasher box in my living room for a good week longer than I should have for this very reason…Darling Husband finally had to throw it out when I wasn’t home. LOL.
@Aure: is your kitty on a Roomba?? heehee

Our cat’s favorite toy is a little toy called a mouseball–it’s a grey ball with a mouse-like tail on it and there was a bit of catnip in it (not sure if there still is as he’s had the toy for months and LOVES it). He also likes balls with bells in them. He also likes playing with cords, but that’s a no-no. Sorry–I don’t have any pictures right now! I love this thread. I’m always so worried our kitty will get bored.

I see that laser’s have been said, flashlights also work (double duty since they both work on dogs too!)
And my cats LOVE any fluffy toy that chirps when you hit it… Like this:
My mom’s cat LOVES these fluffy balls, but only the sparkly ones (don’t ask.. he also loves a rainbow colored mouse)
But make sure you actually get these in the “cat toy” section, because they sell them at craft stores, but the shed a lot more and I don’t think that’s good for the cats.
When I worked at the SPCA the kittens LOVED these:
