@meliss: agree on that…that is one of the most flattering necklines I’ve seen (and of course the skirt is great fun).  It was perfect for her body type.

Also, everyone keeps mentioning Ivanka, and I’m sure we all know what her dress looks like, but I feel like it should be posted in the thread for posterity’s sake, or something:

I loved her dress when I first saw it, but maybe it was just the sleeve shock?  Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s beautiful and classic, but it isn’t quite as special as I’d remembered it in my head, I guess.  I think the fact that covered buttons go alllll the way down the back and down through the train is kind of weird.  Because buttons are either functional or are to give the illusion of functionality in a place where buttons traditionally go, but no one buttons up their train, so it seems pointless. Maybe some other decorative element would have worked better there, I don’t know.  Still, a beautiful dress. She was definitely taking style cues from Grace Kelly, who had THE BEST WEDDING OF ALL TIME, of course.

@veganglam The thing with the buttons is a tradition/superstition:

They say that the bride will have as many further years of living as there are buttons on her dress. That is why often the buttons go all the way down the train.

I personally also like this as a style element.

@natalila: Interesting.  Never heard of that.  I don’t care for it, visually, but I’m glad to know why it exists.  So does that mean if I get a ridiculously long cathedral-length train and put buttons all the way down it, I can live thousands of year? Wink  Too bad for those who can’t afford extra fabric, too. Lol.

Princess Diana…..

no just kidding, but a lot of people say this is one of the most immaculate wedding dresses ever made/worn.

@Prettyinpink89: Do you have any pictures of it?  Bizarrely, I couldn’t find any on the internet, except for the one on the cover of people, and her bouquet is obscuring the view of the dress. Boo.

@zippylef: I’m having a version of Dita’s dress in gold. 😀 I really hope that it looks as  good as I hope it does.
