I am recently engaged and will be moving in with my Fiance soon. I’ve never lived with a SO before and I wanted to see how everyone coordinates cleaning/tidying schedules. I’m extremely clean and he’s….not haha. How do you do laundry? Do you do a deep cleaning in one day or do a little everyday? I’m just curious what works best for everyone

It’s a group effort between Fiance and I. I cook and he does the dishes during the week. He takes out the trash and recycling every Wednesday. Sunday’s I pick up around the house and do all of our laundry. I also clean the cats liter boxes on a weekly basis.
Every other week we have a housekeeper who comes in to do a deep cleaning.

That definitely sounds doable. I also cook every meal so it would only make sense that he has trash/recycling duty.

I clean a bit everyday (the handheld vacuum cleaner is probably our best purchase in recent times, I love how efficient that is for cat litter and dust/hair/crumbs), I’m a mild version of Monica in Friends in terms of everything has its place and there are no degrees of clean, either it is or it isn’t. My DH is…not the same 🙃 We do our laundry separately. He’s generally good in the kitchen and he deals with the trash more than I do. We used to have a cleaner but at least for now I don’t think we need one.

I do most of the housework unless I ask DH to do something specifically. He takes care of the yard. I don’t really consider taking out the trash to be a chore since it takes like 30 seconds, but it’s usually me who does that because my car blocks the bins in our garage.
I try to keep up with the dishes during the week, but for the most part, everything gets done on the weekend.
I just bought a roomba and it vacuums every night, it’s awesome. We have three dogs and the amount of hair that it gets everyday is incredible.

how noisy is the roomba? I’ve been thinking of getting one. Though I guess that would mean keeping all the cat toys off the floor 🤔

I set up a cleaning schedule for myself to tackle a little each day. We have a small(ish) apartment, so I’d rather take 15 minutes a day, instead of 2 hours on a weekend. I do each chore 1x/week… laundry, vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, clean bathroom, clean kitchen… with general pick-up of the house and keeping the kitchen tidy.
Just started doing this last month and it’s a breeze!

we don’t have a schedule set in stone, but we try to clean up spills as we go, manage dishes every day, do a quick sweep of the dog toys before bed, etc. I make the bed every single morning. Laundry is primarily my job, but DH will help when I ask (and he’s taken the brunt of it the past 2 weeks since I haven’t been feeling well). I also like to spend Saturday mornings doing the dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and bathrooms while I don’t have a husband and dog awake to get in my way.
Sometimes life gets crazy and the house falls to crap for a few days. It happens to the best of us so when it does don’t get too upset by it – just work together and clean up!

We have a housekeeper so that’s one less thing to quarrel about. She’s happy making money and we are happy to pay her!

I do the cleaning & laundry, he does snow removal & occasional outdoor/yard needs/projects. We both do trash & recycling. This last summer he took an interest in gardening so he helped with that too.
Vacuum – every other day, sometimes more.
Light Dusting – 2x week.
Refrigerator – 1x week
Toilets – 1x week
Mop- 3x month
Showers – 3x month
Deep dusting – 2x month
Laundry varies, I don’t have a set schedule. Sometimes I do a load every other day & keep the hampers empty. Other times I don’t even think of it for over a week. But we don’t have kids so laundry is not a big deal.
Random maintenance like reorganizing junk drawer or medicine cabinet, old clothes, shoes, gadgets, etc – once a month. As in I do one special organizational thing about once a month.
Our biggest problem is paper & documents. We both suck at it. Organizing, sorting, filing, etc. that’s our overlapping weak spot. Otherwise we compliment each other pretty well.
I do the cooking & cleanup but I don’t count that as housework.

It’s funny, because I made a post about it on here before I got one looking for opinions and some people said that they were noisy. I don’t think it’s very noisy at all, certainly not as noisy as a regular vacuum or even a hand vac. It’s sounds like a remote controlled car to me. I actually run it at 2 am in the downstairs and never hear it. If you were a light sleeper, it might wake you up if it was actually in the room bumping into things. I don’t think it’s too loud to run while watching TV. You do have to be pretty good about making sure small things are off the floor though.

i have a roomba too! worth EVERY damn penny, theres nothing that screams ‘clean!’ the way a fresh floor with vaccuum lines does 🙂 it is too loud to watch tv while it is in the same room, but not too loud to watch tv if its in the room next to you. less loud than a typical vac, but still pretty noisy. and it does require a sweep of the floor to pick up anything it would get caught on, and regular maintenance/upkeep. still, SO much easier than vacuuming every day. also, i’ve had a neato in the past too, and i like the roomba better, more user friendly.
for chores- my favorite thing ever is interior design, so it just comes with that territory to keep up a very uncluttered apartment. so picking up the little things that gather is taken care of by me every day.
i also do the cooking, which i do not consider a chore since it is another favorite hobby, every day. and plan our meals and grocery shop once a week- UGH. this means Fiance does the dishes- yay!
countertops are cleaned by me daily/every other day and Fiance does the trash whenever it needs it durig the week. and an apartment deep clean happens every other friday while I have the day off while Fiance is at work; however, if the deep clean has to take place while he is home, he always volunteers to tackle the bathroom.
laundry we typically tace care of our own stuff once a week, unless i am able to throw some of his things in with mine; but never the reverse because he puts absolutely everything into the dryer and my stuff you have to check the label lol.
this set-up works for us because i am another monica and get the therapeutic benefits of cleaning like how some people get from the gym lol. also i hate doing the dishes and would take on everything i can just to not have to do that chore!

Haha I am definitely a “Monica” too

I’ve thought about getting a Roomba before. I’ll have to look into that!

That sounds super do-able! Thanks!!
