What kind of things do you want to see in one place? What would you definitely not do? Any horror stories?
I really looooove weddings (everything is just so pretty!) and I want to switch from my engineering career into making wedding stuff. So, what do you think the wedding world needs?
I’m thinking of opening a wedding craft/decor/accessories store (custom, handmade) but I don’t want to sell through Etsy. Would you choose to go to an actual store instead of buying online?
My mom hates this idea, By The Way. I’m Asian, have an engineering degree, graduated top of my class, and according to her, “will throw away my future doing crafts and cakes” (I quit the cake stuff … too much work and no one has the budget for $800+ cakes). But weddings and everythijng about them really make me happy.

I don’t know that I’d depart from my engineering path to open a ‘craft store.’ This isn’t exactly the best time to start a small business. Etsy reaches hundreds of thousands of people. There is no overhead (or if there is its relatively low) and you can shop there 24/7. Convenience is big for me so the internet is usually my go-to first stop. Would I go to a wedding craft shop in my area? Maybe. I’m not going to lie and say, “yes, absolutely!” I do think there is a lot of money to be made in the wedding business, I just don’t know if a shop like that is necessarily where to find it :-/
That being said, my best girl friend in college quit school during her senior year and moved to California to start working in the wedding industry. No experience, no credentials. She now makes a TON of money designing million dollar weddings. Sometimes it really does pay off to follow your dreams.
ETA: To answer your question – I think the wedding world needs an inexpensive place to rent lounge furniture! And I’m saying this in all seriousness. The cutesy, craft things you can find anywhere or make yourself. Its the practical things that break the bank!

@adoc86: I know…. that’s exactly what my mom said. Thank you for your feedback and the lounge furniture rental idea. I do need to put in a lot of thinking and planning into this.
Hoping a few more brides chime in!

Any body else?
I really want to switch careers and ideas from everyone will be really helpful. I don’t want to be a planner because I actually want to be working on the craft/creative side of things.
By The Way, if anyone wants to outsource their “DIY” projects, I’m your girl!
