My favorite gemstone would be smithsonite. One day I would like a cab set into a ring. The color is dreamy.

EmeleeRose :  I have been stalking this cab for a while now. It is 19mmx14mm and from the Kelly mine. It is my favourite becasue the color does not seem real. It is hard to believe anything that color could come from the ground. I fell in love with Paraibas becasue they are a smiular color to smithsonite but a bit harder.

EmeleeRose :  Emeralds set with diamonds are my favourite. I love the way white pops against the free. I love they way they look in art deco settings too.

EmeleeRose :  Exactly! That is why I love them. I live near old shaft mines. When the mines are discraded they fill with water and are that color. Oh I love it. Here is one on a cloudy day. When the sun shines it is fantastic and the color of Smithsonite.

I did not know you are an Aussie. I really want to travel and see some Lighting Ridge mine. I love going to mines. It is a strange hobby but my Dad got me into it. undecided

My favorite stone is ammolite because of how naturally beautiful it is (and historical!). My favorite cut is oval, it seems like every oval ring I’ve seen makes fingers look dainty and lady-like.

Natural star sapphires are my favorite! They just look so magical and come in lots of pretty colors. With this particular stone, I favor a round cabochon over an oval one. DH said that he had actually considered one as an engagement ring for me before selecting the padparadsha instead, and I’m glad, because I’d prefer mine in a pendant. Maybe someday, I’ll have one (10th anniversary present, perhaps?).

is_a_belle :  Have you seen Jean Harlow’s 85ct star sapphire? I can’t figure out how her hand supported it!

EmeleeRose :  This is my dream tanzanite ring, although it’s a tad big for my exact taste:

All the rings on this thread are gorgeous!

Ukulele4You :  No, I haven’t! Wow, that stone is HUGE! I have itty bitty baby hands and my fingers are cramping just looking at it.

Most of the star sapphires I like are between 5-20 carats (8-12mm), and… I’d really prefer them around my neck. They’re just too much for a small person like me!
