Alejandra, like the Lady Gaga song.

You would think that living in Southern California were everything is in Spanish that most people could figure out how to pronounce my name but apparently it’s just too difficult. I’ve heard a lot of “Alley-jan-dra,” Alley-andra,” and “Uh-lon-dra.” The worst is when people see my nametag and call me Alexandra. Where is this invisable “x” that you see? People always want to call me by a nickname but I loathe nicknames.

Brandin.

My parents were hippies and thought giving their daughter a boys name would be liberating. I love my name though, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Marlana. It’s pronounced Mar-lane-uh, and it’s “supposed” to be a combo of Corina and Marlene, my grandmothers’ names. My mom was still pretty out of it from the c-section when she told my dad what she wanted to name me…

Mine is Menna.

For some reason people find it difficult to pronounce and keep calling me Meena which does annoy me.  I used to get arsey and explain to people that the “e” is followed by two constanants, which means it’s a short sound, to no avail.  I’ve now learn’t the easiest way to teach people to say my name is that it sounds like Men Are smelly, but drop the “re smelly”.
