Here are some things that have worked for me:
-baked potato (nuke in the microwave, just punch holes with a fork so it doesn’t explode)
-greasy meal, like previous posters
-another alcoholic beverage (may not seem like you want one, but you can usually tell if it’ll help after the first few sips… this has actually worked on my most difficult, already-throwing-up hangovers)
-go for a jog (probably not the most obvious remedy but if you’re not too hungover, just tired/headache/slightly off, it works wonders and was even supported on an episode of Mythbusters! I think it has to do with increasing blood flow and oxygen being delivered to your brain)

Soda water with a few sprinkles of bitters. It’s what I used to give my co-workers and myself when I was a bartender. But, not something you’d probably have on hand at home.
A Bloody Mary, as counter productive as it sounds, will always work too!

I agree about water. Drinking a ton before I go to sleep really helps prevent a hangover for me.
If I do have one, I’ve found miso soup to be the best at making me feel better! I get the powdered kind from the grocery store that you just stir with hot water. So tasty, and it really does the trick.

It really depends in how bad I’m feeling. The one continuum is bed.

I find that if I have a gatorade before I go to bed, I rarely end up with a hangover. If it was a heavy night, I’ll pair that gatorade with some greasy food (like hashbrowns) from the diner near my house. I try to be proactive the night before so I don’t suffer as much the next day 🙂
For the next day, bananas help me sometimes as well. And ginger ale or something else ginger for nausea if that is an issue.

Love the responses that say Bloody Mary – my drink of choice.
I second the posters that said to drink water and eat something before bed – so important! But what has helped me recover the next day are cucumbers! Seriously. Read up on them. They have something in them that combats hangovers – plus they are very bland/mild so they are easy to eat even when you are not feeling 100%.

I would just like to thank this entire post! I’m going to a wine sipping event at the zoo tonight and this post just made me get up and go fill up my water bottle. I’m going ot get through 2-3 bottles while I’m at work and try to drink water while I’m there as well. Then lots when I get home. That’s my usual MO. I usually try to down a glass of water between every drink or every time I go to the bathroom! If I still wind up with a headache then I go for ibuprofen, but it takes a lot. Luckily I don’t usually get nauseous.

I’ll echo a lot of people with the drinking water (or Gatorade) before even going to sleep helps a lot. I also agree that I need caffiene throughout the next day.. although I can’t do hot coffee (VERY strange, since I’m addicted to coffee).
If I have to work the following day, I HAVE to have water, water, water, aspirin, Coke/Diet Coke, and a heavy breakfast. If by some grace of God I don’t have to work, it’s sleep, big breakfast, and a beer.
