Ugh. Mine are pretty odd and Im not even sure when I acquired these phobias.

Blood Pressure Pumps. Its like my body starts panicking on its own, so much, that it raises my blood pressure substantially. They always ask me if Im nervous and I have to explain my phobia. Kinda embarrassing lol

Small Pieces of paper. Yeah. I know. I just cant handle when i step on them with bare feet. Cant. Stand. It. It just freaks me out. my friends know about this phobia but totally forgot on my birthday and they were throwing confetti on the wood floor of my dining room. Then they asked me to come and blow out candles (in the kitchen, through the dining room) I just sat down on the floor and cried. Same thing happened when my roommate was cutting out hundreds of photos for a scrapbook and left ALL the little clippings and pieces all over the living room floor. I couldnt get to my bedroom for 5 hours! I know, Im a lunatic!

@anabri09: I totally get the blood pressure pumps, especially the automatic ones.  I don’t like the squeezing or the pain and I feel like it’s restricting my circulation too much.  And both times I’ve had the automatic one, the nurse leaves the room for a minute, and I freak out that it’s not going to shut off and squeeze my arm until I somehow die.  That’s totally irrational but I hate how they feel already and I don’t want to rely on a machine to stop on its own when it needs to.

I’m so glad to see that other people are afraid of butterflies too!  My fiance thinks I’m crazy, but they fly so erratically that you don’t know if they’re going to land on you.  I’m also afraid of parrots.  Not really sure why, but I always feel like they’re going to bite me or fly towards me.

Feet. I don’t want to touch them and I don’t want them to touch me! If someone elses feet touches my pillow or throw blanket they have to be washed. I freak out if fiances feet touch me in bed too.

Moths. Closet and room doors have to be shut when sleeping.  I also have to have the bathroom door closed when washing my face and the room door closed and locked when vaccuming! Don’t want anyone popping up behind me!

I don’t like elevators anymore.  At a bachelorette party a few months ago a group of 16 women and I got stuck in one.  And the hotel wasn’t answering the alarm button and wasn’t aware we were stuck.  No one’s phones were working or had any signal.  Finally one person was able to get one bar of signal on their phone and call 911.  It took like 30 minutes for the fire department to come and people were freaking out because we were so cramped in there.  It could have escalated to a dangerous situation really quickly.

So yeah, I don’t like elevators anymore and I get really scared if I’m in one without my cell phone.  I try to bring my cell phone with me everytime I go in them now because I don’t trust the intercoms in the elevators to work.  And I’m still afraid because in most elevators cell phones don’t work either.

@amariem25: I keep replying which makes it look like I’m terrified of everything.  Smile  But I also will not go in an elevator without my cell phone.  And I don’t like it to be too crowded but I also don’t like to be alone.  I like it when there are one or two other people so I wouldn’t be completely alone if it gets stuck or falls.  The elevators at my mom’s work where I worked for a while used to stop and one fell eight floors once all the way to the basement (there was one guy alone in it).  I hate thinking of being in the elevator when that happens.

@mandb122: omg did the guy get hurt when the elevator fell?  that’s what I’m always worried about – them falling multiple floors!  Please tell me he was ok and then maybe I won’t be so scared.  But I always thought people could die if the elevators fell that far!

@amariem25: From what I was told he was fine except some soreness in his knees and back but he was older (maybe around 55-60 years old) which I think probably contributed a little bit to it.  They actually started to use an elevator attendant after that in the defective elevator to control the amount of people and make sure they would be there if something happened.

@mandb122: yeah i always count how many people are in the elevator if too many start getting on at each floor.  And i always look at the weight limit now.  More than 10 people in an elevator and I start thinking about getting off of it and waiting for the next one to come and pick me up.

Dryer sheets.  I can not stand them.  Anything about them.  And the rooster thing, I am afraid of roosters, but not chickens.  Probably because I was attacked by one when I was little, but I will not go any where near the things!  Mean little buggers, I’m tellin ya!  Another thing I am absolutely terrified of is any type of rodent.  If I even think there is one in the room, I won’t go near it for DAYS!

@Lorge28: Ha! When we were planning our wedding, we had to get a different DJ because the one we were going with never returned our calls. He finally called my Fiance a couple of weeks before the wedding (after we’d booked a new DJ) and asked if we still needed him. My Fiance said he wasn’t sure (?!?!) and told the guy I’d call him back!!! Needless to say, I made the Fiance call him back and break the bad news haha.

Oooh, I also hate ocean/lake bottoms- Fiance has to often carry me out to a place where I can tread water. I’ve been working on this, but I’ve stepped on jellyfish and been pinched by crabs, so I understand where this fear came from.

I also can’t stand having the shower curtain closed when I come into a bathroom- I always open it from as far away as possible, ready to run if someone (thing?) is in there. Creeeepy!

These are all cracking me up, love this thread!

The sound of glass. If I hear glass clink, it gets me nervous. If I hear glass break, you’d better hand me an Ativan, because I’m going to be a complete basket case for at least a half hour. Hyperventilating, shaking, crying, the whole full-on panic attack bit. It has to be real, though. For some lucky reason, the sound just doesn’t translate properly enough when it’s recorded… so I don’t freak out when someone breaks glass on TV or film. I guess there’s some frequency in it that gets to me or something.

This is why we have Corelle dishes (they’re not standard glass), and specific plastic kid cups for the 2 to 3 times a year that a child may visit the house. And why I’ve never even bothered applying for a waitressing job.

I hate getting my blood pressure taken. It hurts and makes me feel claustrophobic then I panic. I have to stop and concentrate just on my breathing to get through it. It all stemms from when I was a teenager and was in hospital for tonsilitis and they checked my blood pressure constantly.
