Reviving the thread. I’m unable to sleep, so … I have a fear of ants. I am terrified of them!!! Tonight, and the night before I have been struggling to make my room Ant-Free!!!! But I seem to be loosing the battle here because everytime I think I have won, I find another one crawling around.

Whenever I see, or think of ants my skin starts to get goosebumps …. and I shiver. I just start freaking out. I picked up a box in the pantry the other night and saw some ants, and just flipped. I dropped the box, and was across the room going, ‘KILL THE ANTS’ ….  My fear is caused by a pretty terrible incident when I was younger. :shiver: I will never, ever forget it.

@Silentlove I can’t sleep either, so I guess I’ll contribute.

  1. Elevators. When I was a kid, I had to ride an elevator by myself. I got stuck in one, in the dark, for nearly an hour. Ever since then I’ve been afraid of getting stuck and no one finding me, the elevator falling or the doors getting stuck.
  2. The blue ringed octopus. I have no idea why.
  3. Spiders and cockroaches. Holy mother of God. I will scream like a baby and force my FH to quit whatever he is doing to kill them.
  4. The sound of breaking bones. Ugh.

I also have an issue with open closets at night and going upstairs when it’s dark.

I’m scared of 18-wheelers! Specially when im driving next to one… It’s super scary. I feel like it’s going to fall on me or drive into my lane and crush me. I will speed and pass it up before i have to drive next to one. I hate them!

A few years ago we had a hurricane on its way to houston and our area got evacuated, I left with my parents and brother and on the highway we were stuck between 3 18-wheelers for about 3 hours, one on each side and 1  in front. the noise was horrible and it smelled bad and they were so big and scary. I cried the whole time!!

@OurWedding I am so glad I am not the only one with my fear.  I hate mascots and characters dressed up, it sounds so silly talking about it but as soon as I see one I freeze and start sweating I can’t explain it, as far as I know nothing happened to me as a child that mum can remember so no idea where it came from!

I stay away from places that have them and it’s quite easy to not see them but sometimes they randomly appear at shopping mall’s etc and scare me!  I even hate the mascots at the rugby games at the stadium, they walk through the crowd and shake hands and I feel so silly as kids are rushing up to them and I am rushing away!

I don’t mind clowns, santa etc I think my fear is when you can’t see anything human about them at all as they are completely covered, especially the ones with the big heads.  I really want to go to Disneyland one day but don’t know if I can.

I am totally, irrationally creeped out by:

1. metal touching my teeth – this means the dentist really, really sucks for me.

2. watching people shave. I can shave my own legs no problem, but for some reason I can’t watch other people shave their legs or faces. I am absolutely convinced they’re going to cut themselves.

I have one that no one has listed: Trees. Not just trees in general but I live in a rural area so we have a tire swing hanging in our tree. I can’t STAND to be anywhere near the tree when someone is on the swing and if I have to actually push them on it? OMG I start freaking out inside of myself. It’s something to do with the way that the branches sway.

I am also afraid of large spiders, using paper napkins etc or watching someone use them if their fingers are sticky *shudder*

I am afraid of anyone standing outside of my range of vision when I am on the computer. It totally freaks me out to the point of tears.

Wide open spaces in the dark and I am really afraid of swimming somewhere that I can’t see the bottom. I am fine with lakes and things but in the ocean… that vast darkness all around me. Ugh. I can snorkle just fine because usually you are close to the ocean floor but I could never scuba dive where it’s dark and you can only see a specific area around you.

Driving. I absolutely hate it. I have really bad anxiety on highways. Especially if it’s somewhere I don’t know where I am. So, needless to say, J does all the driving. He did it for about 6 or so months in our LDR relationship. Every weekend. Back and forth. I finally mustered up the courage to do it myself and then did it for the last six months before we moved in together.

Before I started driving, I was TERRIFIED of the idea of driving. I wouldn’t even drive a go-cart! I didn’t get the courage to take driver’s training until I was already almost 17. Now, I still really don’t like driving at night or in the rain.

Ants!! Maybe it’s that they swarm? I discovered ants were getting into my last apartment thru the AC unit, so I went to the leasing office to place a work order … and was told it would take 2-3 days to send someone. Pretty sure I conveyed (in near-hysterics) that I was going to have a meltdown if I saw one more ant, bc later that afternoon a very wary guy came and sprayed/cleaned. Hate them!!!

I am a bit terrified of raccoons. They kind of look cute, until they look really really really vicious.

I have a fear of people touching my wrists. I have no idea why, but it makes me feel disgusting. A masseuse once told me my asking her not to touch them was one of the strangest requests she’d heard.

I also have an irrational fear of popsicles, for which I have been teased mercilessly for life. I can’t stand to watch people eat them! It makes my teeth hurt just to see one. When I was at summer camp, I’d always make an excuse to leave the dining hall during popsicle time! Very weird, I know.
