BF has been driving me crazy lately because he thinks that the kind of cereal that I like to eat is for kids. I like to eat Apple Jacks, Froot Loops, Rice Krispies and sometimes Lucky Charms. And okay, Lucky Charms is definitely marketed toward kids. But it’s so tasty! I don’t eat it a lot though because it’s not very healthy. But I digress.
Sometimes, BF will accompany me when I go grocery shopping. We don’t live together yet so I’m just buying groceries for myself. He’ll come along because we are both trying to eat healthier and I need someone there to say “No, don’t buy that, that’s not healthy” and to physically remove the item from my buggy.
But lately, he has been giving me grief about the kind of cereal I like to eat! I get annoyed because WHO CARES if it’s marketed toward children! So what! I am 25 and an adult! I can eat whatever cereal I want! That’s part of being an adult, having the freedom to decide what to buy for yourself.
Sigh. The other night, to shut him up, I bought Raisin Bran. I ate it this morning and did not like it. I really miss my Apple Jacks. Grrrr.
So what kind of cereal do you like to eat? Do you agree with my BF that the aforementioned cereal (Apple Jacks, Froot Loops, etc) should be for kids only and I should eat grown-up, adult, respectable cereal like Raisin Bran or Kellogg Special K? Or are you like me and eat cereal that are apparently supposed to be JUST for kids?

Raisin bran has as much or more sugar than your “kids” cereal. And while the others aren’t great, there are tasty alternatives. Cheerios are amazing and even though the apple cinnamon ones have a lot of sugar, they are better than apple jacks. Rice crispies aren’t really even bad, not good but not horrible
I eat a lot of oatmeal (old fashioned cooks up less pastey) with sugar in the raw or a tatablespoon of brown sugar and it is delicious. But totally can chow down on Honeycombs or rice crispies or apple cheerios. Moderation is the key and yep, the best part of being an adult is if I want to eat honeycombs four meals in a row, I can.

I don’t eat cereal too often, but I do buy Lucky Charms and Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds.

I actually love Cheerios! That’s one of the few cereals that my BF doesn’t make fun of me about. I’ll eat Cheerios for like two weeks then I’ll want something different that has a bit more flavor.
And I am actually not a fan of oatmeal lol. Never tried Honeycombs though.

Dh and I have Lucky Charms every morning 🙂 as long as you watch the serving size they really aren’t bad for you! I love Apple Jacks too! Some of theadult cereals are equally bad or even worse for you. It’s probably all the new regulations on promoting healthy eating for kids that makes the kid cereal not so bad anymore.

@LadyBlackheart: Bleh, I bought my first “adult” cereal (Special K Red Berries) and I hate it lol. The berries are basically dried strawberries that taste super sour to me? Everytime I eat it I just want a big ass bowl of Lucky Charms instead.
On a side note, do you guys remember Oreo O’s cereal? It was my favorite and they stopped making it in the US 🙁

Just because it is marketed towards kids doesn’t make it less healthy! Actually 1 cup of raisin bran has 190 calories and 18 grams of sugar and 1 cup of apple jacks has 110 calories and 12 grams of sugar.

I don’t necessarily agree that only kids should eat those cereals because they are quite tasty! With that said, I dont eat them because they are full of sugar. A lot of cereal is, even the “grown up” ones lol!

Coco Crispies. I would die if I didn’t have a bag in my home at all times. I’m an adult, I eat coco crispies, therefore it is an adult cereal. Lol.

I still love kids cereals. We have Lucky Charms and Trix in the pantry right now!

“Not very healthy” as in “loaded with sugar and fake stuff”. I would relegate that to a rare treat, and find a healthy breakfast instead!

I eat Special K now…would love to eat Lucky Charms for breakfast every morning but I seem to be always on a diet. Stupid failing metabolism.

I still like some “kid” cereals such as cinnamon toast crunch. But I never eat a whole bowl of it, I mix like 1 cup bran flakes and 1/4 cup cinnamon toast crunch. That way I get the taste but I have overall a healthier breakfast.

We all love kids cereals (the colors! the nostalgia! the high fructose corn syrup!) but that shit is deadly.Seriously. Have you read the ingredients?
This is going to sound snotty but I only eat Grape Nuts, shredded wheat, no sugar added Kashi and Bran Flakes (husband calls them “poopy flakes”).

@LadyBlackheart: I was never allowed to eat sugar cereals as a kid, so I make up for it now! I love kids cereals especially Lucky Charms, I literally cannot keep them in the house or else I will go through a whole box in a week. And Rice Krispies are a totally legit adult cereal, they’ve got a lot less sugar than Raisin Bran and have fewer calories than Special K.
