My dress is very similar in shape as this one.
What type of crinoline is used for this dress shape? Just tulle or one with a hoop? And if so, how many hoops?
If I am looking online, am I looking for an a-line one, or is a mermaid better, do you think?
Thanks for any help!

I would go with an extra full 3 tiered mermaid just tulle no hoops 🙂

I would skip the hoops and go for the tulle crinoline.. either mermaid or possibly one with a dropped waist

@fvsbride: Ooh I had a similar drama a few days ago. I’d say you really need to try them to be sure.

Thank you! Everyone is so helpful here
Is something like this ok?
If I’m way off track – can you please show me what I should be looking for? Any links / pictures would be much appreciated!

i am really glad this thread is here because i was just going to ask the same question…
do you think that my dress needs this same kind of petticoat?
i think at the front it doesnt look like it needs one at all but at the back it looks a bit limp, and my backside looks droopy…..(well it IS droopy but i dont want to show it )
i amm going to buy the fabric and make my own, wont cost more than around £5 , but in you ladies opinions, do i need this same style petticoat as the one above? i THINK so but not sure…
in fact i have just thought of something else….
i have a tummy tamer spandex body thingy, and it comes to just above my knees, if i wore that then i can go without a bra, get some much needed tummy taming, and i could add tulle layers to the bottom hem, making a crinoline , so i would have a ful body crinoline with just the bottom as tulle frills. and no layers to worry about as i would not have to wear anything else…..(apart from knickers of curse) would that work OK do you think?

in fact i have just seen some crinolines on ebay, and they have given me the idea to make my own from scratch, with more tulle added to the back to lift my saggy bum!
i will also be making it in a purple or lilac colour, no need to dye it if i make the petticoat from scratch, i just buy the right colour…..
this is the picture that showed me i could just make it a little bit fuller at the back and not all the way around the front aswell…

@anne B: I’d say your dress needs one. 🙂

yes me too, have just got home from shopping and i bought the fabrics i need to make it, 2 mtrs of polyester, and 4 mtrs of net, i got yellow because i want a coloured crinoline. it cost a total of £9.80 which is more than i thought it would be but a lot lot less than a bought one……and IF i could have found my fabric box earlier, i already HAVE the polyester i needed! that would have saved me £5 cos the net was only £1.35 per metre…. cant wait to get making it…..but have to wait til monday til FI has gone to work, i am on leave!
The beauty of making my own is i get exactly what i want.

@fvsbride: did you find a mermaid/fit flare petticoat for reasonable price? i’ve been looking for one as well

@vitruong: Sorry for the delayed reply! Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find a hoopless crinoline where the ‘flare’ starts mid-thigh, which I think is where I need it to be.
My mum thinks she can add a few extra layers of tulle onto the existing crinoline under the dress so I may go with that instead.
Good luck, and let me know if you are able to find any alternatives too!
