I’ve heard that the numbers we hear about personal debt are skewed in order to make people feel more comfortable with the idea of borrowing for consumer goods. So it makes me wonder, what TYPE of debt do you carry (if you carry any)?
I’m personally pretty into personal finance and love to hear about this kind of thing!

We have two car loans and one mortgage. That is the only debt we carry. Both of us paid off our student loans prior to buying our house, and we ocassionally carry a little bit of a credit card balance but it is usually paid back off immediately.

Dh’s credit card – $1100
Dh’s medical bill – $1000
& now I’m buying (making monthly payments) to my dad for his car he sold to me. Which he sold to us for $8000.
I don’t think we are in the hole too bad.

I have an auto loan and credit card debt. Thankfully it’s all going away soon as I’m coming into some money. What a huge stress and relief that will be.
In total I owe about 11K.

I paid off my student loans within 3 years of graduating, and Fiance didn’t have any. We both own condos with mortgages, and he has a auto loan as well. Neither of us have ever carried a balance on credit cards.

In my name, technically nothing. We own our home and my car is paid off. But we’re still paying on DH’s student loans and the SUV we bought for him last year.

I have a mortgage that I hold with Darling Husband, a car loan that is only in my name (but that I don’t really “count” in my head since it’s 0% interest), and student debt (a student line of credit – the most stressful debt I have I would say. Although at $16,000 I would say it’s not bad for 6 years of school including my graduate degree).

I have a mortgage in my name, and Fiance and I each have a car loan. We plan to have both car loans paid off by the end of this year, and then we will only have our mortgage.

only a car loan and a mortgage. I use my debit card for everything. If I use a credit card for rewards or something (Amex) I pay it immediately.

I only have student loans. I’ll probably have an auto loan tacked on to those next year, though.

Student loans 🙁 My car will be paid off next month so only the student loans will be left for us!

@MrsTVLover: What kind of debt are medical bills considered (I’m Canadian so we don’t really have this)? Are they a different kind of bill that you finance through the hospital? Or do you get a special medical bank loan? Or do you just put them on a line of credit or something?
Sorry that you have medical bills – that sucks!

We have mortgage debt and a car loan. But I don’t really count the car loan as debt since we had the cash to buy it out right, but got a 0% rate and felt the money was better left in savings/investments if they were going to give me a free loan.

I have a wicked huge amount of student loan debt, and a little bit of credit card debt. The latter will be paid off by January 1st. That’s my goal, anyway!
